A grieving couple retreat to "Eden", their isolated cabin in the woods, where they hope to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse...
IFC will release the film through their on-demand service on October 21st before giving it a limited theatrical run on October 23rd and expand the run to more theaters over time.
Reportedly budgeted around $11-million.
Filmed in Cologne, Germany.
Filming was originally supposed to begin in the summer of '07.
When the project was first announced it was said to revolve around the theory that Satan created the world and not God.
It's said that Nicole Kidman passed on the role as the female lead.
Written by Lars von Trier and Anders Thomas Jensen.
Director Lars von Trier also worked on the Danish series The Kingdom, which was later remade and aired on ABC as Kingdom Hospital by Stephen King.
My wife and I did the pay-per-view thing for this movie. The first 3/4 of this movie was slow and boring! The last quarter of it picked up but it wasnt enough to save this movie. Very wierd but not enough to entertain. I am a Dafoe fan, I think he is a good actor with alot of range. This showing of his acting skill was sad and wanting. I can only hope that in the future his manager picks better scripts for him, until then I have lost remote control rights and have to watch lifetime movie network until I redeem myself with movie picking. i saw this movie a couple months ago and it was fuckin trippy. i didnt understand the ending though. although ive never read the bible so.. but all in alll it was a great fucked up movie. there were a few things that happened in that movie that made me cringe.
if you like fucked up trippy movies that you need to think about for a while to get, than i suggest you check this flick out.
I saw this movie last weekend and for me I didn’t see that it was that violent. The special effects were pretty good. The acting was outstanding but I expect nothing less from Dafoe. Granted, this movie isn’t for everyone. So if you like your horror movies simple , this movie is not for you. If you like a creepy, artsy, fucked up movie that makes you think outside the box, this movie is for you.

I went to see this at a local cinema last thursday and i must say regardless of what the majority of critics feel Lars Von Trier is a director with exceptional skill and has garnerd a bad reputation for nothing, the critics are claiming its ultra violent however the likes of inside and martyrs are much much more violent, and it is unfair to try and draw them into comparison with films such as troma films because it has so much more substance, when this comes out in the states i would throughly recommend it
Very true. They absolutely do not get it. That is why I come to this site. However, the few horror movies that mainstream critics do like are usually pretty good...ie: inside, high tension, shaun of the dead, district 9...

Really didn't like this film. Dafoe must have been short on the aul bucks!
Watched it. It has the gore and unnerving situations as I spit on your grave except a little more graphic. Reminds me of the 70's adult horror flicks.

never pay attention to what the critics have to say about horror films. they don't get it.
