Based on Clive Barker's "Book of Blood" wraparound story, which focused on a psychic researcher, who employs a fake medium to investigate a haunted house, where the said-medium actually gets visited by real ghosts. These spirits attack him and carve words in his flesh, which eventually form the rest of the stories in the collection, and leading to a literal living book of blood.

PROJECT DETAILS
Filmed in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The film features an all British cast, however, the lead Sophie Ward plays an American character.
Budgeted at an estimated $5-million.
Also written by director John Harrison, who has worked with George Romero on various projects, and made his feature directorial debut with the Tales From the Darkside movie in 1990.
Actor Doug Bradley plays a character named "Tollington," who has been dead for nearly a century, and when living, was an occultist that once occupied the house.
Fans may remember Doug Bradley as "Pinhead" from the Hellraiser series, and also actor Simon Bamford as the "Butterball Cenobite" from the first two films in the series.
Other films based on the works in the Books of Blood series are Rawhead Rex, Quicksilver Highway, Candyman, Lord of Illusions, and the upcoming Midnight Meat Train and Pig Blood Blues.
Based on the wraparound "Book of Blood" short story that served as an introduction in Clive Barker's Books of Blood horror series.
i had to watch it twice to make sure i liked it, the first time i watched it i had enjoyed it, not so much the second time because it was too slow. nothing much happened in the middle and as a viewer you can really feel it. of course the beginning drew me in, but i was expecting that throughout the duration of the movie, sadly i was mistaken. the idea of the story was a original, but it needed more blood than book.

I rented this movie the other day from a red box and sure glad i did. I was looking forward for this film being that it is a Clive Barker film. I love Hellraiser and Candyman, but this movie was pointless. First off the acting wasn't bad, but i didn't feel any emotions for any of them. The movie also didn't really have any scenes that were scary. I felt that it was better that it was a direct to dvd release rather than going to theaters first. It would not have been worth the 8 bucks to see it in theaters. Spoiler alert.......
Im not sure really if this spoils anything because you never find out why this happened, but in the beginning you see a teenage girl being beaten up by a ghost and eventually gets her face ripped off. You never find out why she gets killed when later on the main character is in the same room as the girl and doesn't get killed, but becomes a book of blood instead.
I think this movie had potential, but ended up just being a random movie that really didn't work out, well at least not for me. I know some of you will enjoy this movie, but i felt it could have been better. I hope Clive's other films in the future will be more like Hellraiser and Candyman. One thing i do have to say was nice to see was that the effects in this movie were above average for a direct to dvd film. If you rent this movie, rent it from a red box because its only a dollar.

Awesome movie. Clive Barker never disappoints. And it was a great read btw.

I watched thirty minutes of this and stopped. I just didn't care what was going to happen next.
