PROJECT DETAILS
  • Producer J.J. Abrams had an interview recently where he discusses the connection with the Cloverfield universe, saying: "This movie is very purposefully not called Cloverfield 2, because it’s not Cloverfield 2. The association is clear and there are multiple connections – and there is a bigger idea at play for us with these movies and this connection."
  • When asked if it takes place during the first movie his response was: "No it doesn’t, but there’s a larger thing at play with these connections. And the fun of it is that some of these connections – and there’s a lot of them – are not the kind of connections you might think. So if you’re approaching it as a literal sequel, you’ll be surprised to see what this movie is. But while it’s not what you might expect from a movie that has the name 'Cloverfield' in it, I think you’ll find that you’ll understand the connection when you see the whole thing."
  • He goes on to say that the Cloverfield monster isn't in the movie, saying: "there’s a new monster and there’s something else that happens… but I don’t want to ruin the ending."(2/29/16)
  • Actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead had a recent interview where she revealed some minor details about the film, saying: "There is this veil of secrecy to it from the very beginning. We were making this movie in this little bubble where nobody else knew what we were doing and there’s really only three actors in the whole thing, so it kind of felt like this really intimate experience. It's so much about just the actors interacting with each other and that tension that builds, just all wondering if they are who they say the are, if they’re telling the truth or not, and really wondering what’s outside." (1/30/16)
  • Producer J.J. Abrams was quoted saying the following about the project: "The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible."
  • It's said that as the film goes on it "gets progressively darker and darker, and less and less funny, and weirder."
  • While out promoting her film Faults, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead elaborated on the premise of this pic, saying: “He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there’s been a nuclear fall-out. It does have similarity to Faults, in some ways, because you don’t know who’s telling the truth or who to believe. There’s a lot of, who’s manipulating who, and all of that. Tonally, it’s very different, but it has some of those same themes.”
  • This marks Dan Trachtenberg feature film directorial debut.
  • This project is believed to have gone under the titles Valencia and The Cellar.
  • This is apparently some sort of spinoff of Cloverfield and not a direct sequel.
