Alice, Sweet Alice

Focuses on Alice, a 12-year-old girl consumed with jealousy of her “perfect” younger sister Karen. When Karen is killed on the day of her first Communion, suspicion falls on Alice. Their mother, Catherine, struggles with the loss of one daughter and the potential guilt of another, and their community becomes overtaken by fear. As more people around Alice are savagely attacked and slain, the mystery deepens: Is this young girl responsible, or is someone else indulging a twisted obsession with murder?

PROJECT DETAILS:

It's been a couple years since the last update, so I reached out to Dante Tomaselli to see if there's anything new going on with the project. According to Dante this remake is still in the works, but it just seems to be a matter of timing, as he's been busy mainly composing his own music and working on a secret project with Michael Gingold. Here’s what he had to say: "Alice, Sweet Alice is in my DNA and I own the rights to a remake through my cousin, Alfred Sole, the film's creator. It is in development and I talk all about it in an interview on Arrow Video's recent Blu-ray restoration of the film. Michael Gingold is co-writing the remake, I'm directing and Alfred Sole is executive producing. First, though, Michael Gingold and I have an original project, a new horror shocker that we've been quietly writing and developing called DAMNATION. I'll be filming that title first. This is part of a proposed multiple picture deal and I'm moments away from making an official announcement. So far I've created four movies...Desecration, Horror, Satan's Playground and Torture Chamber. After those projects, I focused on composing dark electronic music and released five albums... Scream in the Dark, The Doll, Nightmare, Witches and Out-of-Body Experience. Now I'm in filmmaking mode again and dedicated to concocting pure horror." (9/7/21)

Dante Tomaselli had a recent interview where he briefly gave somewhat of an update on this project, saying: "My cousin and I still have a remake in the cards and we're in talks about releasing official Alice, Sweet Alice Halloween masks with Trick or Treat's Justin Mabry." (7/17/19)

At the moment the project is still looking to secure financing. Dante Tomaselli had this to say about the film: "For a while it was just a concept, and there was no script. But, recently, Michael Gingold and I wrote a scary slasher screenplay, honoring the original film’s flavor. I always planned, or hoped, to finance Alice, Sweet Alice with private funding, so it could remain independent, like the original, but the financing is a beast unto itself. At this moment, I do have solid prospects from European production companies and producers that contacted me out of the blue, knowing that, through my cousin, I own the rights to the remake. The original film has a huge worldwide cult following in the horror world. I’m following through and need to make sure that the money is really there." (5/24/16)

Director Dante Tomaselli (Torture Chamber, Satan's Playground, Horror) is actually the cousin of the original director.

This project was originally announced in 2013 with Kathryn Morris (Mindhunters) set to star as Catherine, Alice's mother, but that fell through when they couldn't find proper funding.

A remake of the 1976 film with the same name from director Alfred Sole.
