PROJECT DETAILS
  • Apparently John Landis isn't too keen on his son working on the film, at least according to a recent interview. Here's what he had to say about Max's involvement: "Truthfully, I’ve not seen his script. I advised him not to do it. I think he’s putting himself in a bad position. My son is brilliant, he really is, and he wants to do it. So what am I going to say? No? I know it won’t be as bad as An American Werewolf In Paris, which was shit. So, I don’t know. He’s a great writer. He’s been writing since he was 7. He wrote a whole series of scripts about these characters called Yelp and Dopey, two dumb dogs, when he was under ten. They were so funny." (9/14/17)
  • Max Landis offered an update on the project recently where he discuses how he'd approach certain things with the remake, saying: "The thing I would do with CGI, were I directing this film, would be leg movement, and I would have the entire wolf’s face, back and body be practical, and then I would fully CGI the legs for organic movements. If you remake American Werewolf and the transformation scene isn’t practical, you have fu*ked up." Adding... "We’ll see if I can do it. We’ll see if I can pull it off. We’ll see if they even make it. My goal is I feel like all of the best remakes focus on one thing in the original movie, take a lot of the images of the original and then remix that really tightly. With American Werewolf I’m doing that, but I’m also just gonna try and do American Werewolf as best I can. We’ll see. I can’t make no promises." (6/29/17)
  • Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein) wrote the latest draft and will be directing. (11/7/16)
  • Fernley Phillips (The Number 23) wrote an early draft, which was said to be a "modern" take.
  • It's said that at one point the Weinstein's (when they were still involved) planned for this to be in 3D.
  • At one point Dimension Films and Sean and Bryan Furst (duo behind Daybreakers) were developing this remake.
  • This project has reportedly been in development for over 10 years.
  • A remake of the 1981 horror-comedy with the same name from director John Landis.
