Black Death
Set in an apocalyptic medieval world during the first outbreak of the bubonic plague in England, the film follows a band of brothers whose quest is to hunt down a necromancer, who's rumored to have made a pact with the forces of darkness and have brought the dead to life in a small village.

This film is not about religion, or the absence of it, but about the perverseness of human nature. In the 12th century the black plague decimated all that it came in to contact with, some believed it to be the wrath of god, some.. did not. Sean Bean is Ulrich, sort of a crusader if you will, sent by the church to uncover the mystery surrounding a single village that hasn't been touched by the sickness. Ulrich and his small band of soldiers believe that the people who dwell there are witches, necromancers, and demons. Their mission is to capture the head honcho and bring him back to the church for justice. Aiding them on their journey is a monk who's recent affair with a woman has left his faith a bit shaky. The men who accompany Ulrich are men of god, ardent Christians.... thieves, rapists, and murderers, make of that what you will. There are no heroes or devils here, there are only human beings, for better or for worse.. and that is what is most frightening. Aside from one battle sequence, there isn't a hell of a lot of action in Black Death, it's a bit plodding, and for my money... there is no payoff in the ending. Issues aside, it is an intriguing film, and it's message is an important one.
Good movie. I liked the ending.
Great movie, but hardly a horror one.
Agreed.
I've been reading good things about this movie. I can't wait to see it. I hope it turns out good like Solomon Kane did.
Just saw this last week, gotta say it wasn't disappointing! Interesting plot, good characters, and a sorta dark ending. I'm suprised this hasn't had more publicity in the U.S. Definately better than Devil, which was all over my TV.
This is another good-looking one. Horror set in the medieval era/gothic age used to be a staple (a lot of Hammer Studios's movies, Vincent Price movies, etc.) but have been rare in modern times, although Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans was awesome. I have high hopes for this one. Plus, Sean Bean is in the lead, and he's great in everything he does (Silent Hill, The Hitcher, The Dark, Lord Of The Rings, etc.)
Hope this comes to North America before too long!
