PROJECT DETAILS
  • Rob Zombie will reportedly not be directing this project any longer as he feels that he needs to break away from any "pre-existing material". It's unclear whether he will still remain on board as producer.
  • Production was initially hoped to begin in Spring 2010.
  • Estimated budget to be around the $20 to $30-million dollar range.
  • When Rob was still involved he was quoted saying: "My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing, that’s the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark."
  • Original producer Jack H. Harris returns.
  • Rob Zombie was originally going to write, produce, and direct this project.
  • A remake of the original 1958 film.

I thoroughly enjoyed Zombie's vision of Halloween and believed that he could do wonders with The Blob. Too bad he's not involved anymore. It could've been awesome!

Plot summary: A bottle KY Jelly is "accidentally" dropped into a vat of hazardous waste, thus sparking a chemical reaction that brings to life a lubrikilling Flubber from Hell.

I'm so fucking tired of everyone seems to be hating on Rob Zombie! Angry The movies he remade to be extra gory & violent actually were scary movies based on scary ideas originally. But sadly thanks to this new gore-loving era of movie goers younger viewers are harder to scare. So both Micheal Myers & the blob went from frightening to a joke or worse forgotten by many! Micheal Myers went from being a unstoppable killing machine that would kill you for no reason if you got in his way could not be killed to a guy with a big knife in mechanic jumpsuit & a Shatner mask who kept getting shot or stabbed in the eyes of many younger viewers. Fuck the blob got it worse! The blob was originally a smart kill machine that hunted you down could squeeze in through even a crack eat/dissolve you alive leaving only your skeleton & leave just as quickly but now the blob is seen as mindless slow moving living Jello you can walk around!! So yes Rob Zombie might go over board on the blood guts & violence but shit this man was trying to get this new age of gore-porn loving viewers & younger viewers to respect some of the classics again. Or at least re-introduce them so that they can truly get the respect they fucking deserve!! Crazy

Incorrect. RZ used conventions of 1970's exploitation/ grindhouse flicks to satisfy his own personal view/ taste of films. Today's younger audience isn't after gore, sex and violence- today's viewing audience is looking more for the big teen-pop-heartthrob to be bopping their way around screen. As much as I absolutely DETEST Rob Zombie's terrible, cop-out wannabe shock schlock films- I'll defend the fact he's making them for the older core-audience of the genre.
RZ is a decent director... for a hack. Mostly though, he's a TERRIBLE, unoriginal syfy channel worthy writer.

That's a very interesting point, it's fun to think about.

I think they should give Rob Zombie a cameo in this film (mabye as a hobo or something) and have the blob eat him, that would be funny Big smile !!!

I hope this comes out in 2011 because I can't wait for any longer than that Cool

Does anyone know if the 1988 remake was any good?

I liked it, it's equal parts preposterous and corny, but also wonderfully violent.

I hope Rob Zombie has NOTHING to do with this film. Seriously, guy fucked up Halloween, now were going to allow him to fuck up another classic? FUCK YOU ROB ZOMBIE, retire your beat and tired ass.

Zombie doesn't have anything to do with this becauses hes focused on making his new movie "The Lords of Salem"

Okay, I think we get it, you didn't like his movies. Get over it and move on. You don't need to continue talking about your hate for something after its now in the past... lmfao.

It is cool to see that Rob is dropping this project.I wanna see Robs true talent by making an original story and not something that has already been done like Devils Rejects was Robs best movie.Lords Of Salem sounds to be interesting.

Zombie wanted to do a movie about the Salem witch trials since he grew up in Massachusetts and was always fascinated by them.
Sounds interesting

I personally enjoyed House more, but I defiantly agree, the more unique the movie he makes is, the better. No more remakes Rob, no more...

This is still going to be made?!?! I thought this thing was dead. Oh well, we ALL know that its going to be a CGI blob and the story is going to suck.

FreddyKrueger13's picture
OfflineUser offline. Last seen 3 hours 4 min ago.

I hope its not CGI because that ruins alot of films but if they have to use CGI at least try to make it look good, if they do that I will probably check it out

About time Zombie got his damn head on straight.

Dude The Blob was around long before Goosebumps, this would be the third version of the film to date. Not counting that goofy made for TV sequel. In any case, this is a ridiculous project, sure the 1980's Chuck Russel treatment was cheesy, but it was also undeniably fun. To this day it remains a sort of guilty pleasure for me, the graphic violence, the terrible music, Kevin Dillon with that stupid 80's haircut. There's just no point in rehashing the story yet again.

Rob Zombie must be getting desperate if he's about to remake this movie.

NO ONE CAN MAKE THE BLOB GOOD. I mean, just read the Goosebumps-esque storyline.

Zombie has made some great music videos in my opinion but has completely failed to grab me in any of his films.

I'm going to agree with you on this one and add that he's done awesome music...My wish is that he sticks to music and music videos. Films are somewhat out of his league and that's proven by the films he's directed to date. IMHO Halloween II was so awful I decided to thwow away my copy of the Halloween remake he directed never to associate his remakes with the original franchise. Sick

I dont see how RZ can change this the "big jello thing" is what made the blob, well the blob.

Rob Zombie is old and talent-less in the movie industry.
