PROJECT DETAILS
  • Filmed in the Chilean island of Chiloe.
  • Jorge Olguin was quoted saying: "This will be a really scary movie. We’re focusing on making it horrific and terrifying, and have worked hard on the amazing creatures."
  • Also known as Caleuche: El Llamado Del Mar (The Call of the Sea) or also referred to in English as simply The Call of the Sea.
  • It's said that the film will feature CGI special effects plus full-size mock-ups of a tall ship that will be built at a hangar in Chile's capital, Santiago, where interiors will be shot.
  • Budgeted at $2-million, which is said to be an above average budget for Chile.
  • Jorge Olguin revealed how he learned of the story growing up, saying: "I learned about the story of the Caleuche in school—it’s a haunted ship that travels surrounded by a mysterious fog, and takes the souls of those who cross its path. But it’s not a fictional story; it’s part of the mythology of the southern island where it has supposedly been seen. People on the island not only believe in it, but many of them claim to have actually seen it."
  • This project was first announced in 2006 with Guillermo del Toro on board to executive produce.
  • This is a Chilean Fantasy horror film from writer/director Jorge Olguin (Eternal Blood, Descendents).
  • Based on the Chilean myth about a large ghost ship that sails the seas around Chiloé at night.
