The first one worked for me but it was only based on the POV shooting method. I have an unfortunate feeling that a script would make a sequel poor but I full accept that there is no need for a Casablanca storyline to make this a worthwhile movie watching experience. Obviously a survivor story (I ASSUME) but I'm sure it will be fun entertainment.

The film was effective because of the POV method. You barely saw the monster. You didn't get a story. You didn't know what the hell was going on. You don't get an explanation.

Literally- you were seeing it all through one person's eyes. They die, experience ends.
Get in someone's skin and live as they do is always the most effective way to bring some reality into film.

They got chaos, confusion and panic then death and never get to know what was going on- why should you get in depth knowledge of how and why the monster is there?

It all boils down to the saaviness of the viewer.. if you need something thats spelled out for you and requires no ability to fall into the movie, check out something bland and dumbed down like Slumber Party Massacre

I can't wait in till this comes out. I have the first one on DVD. I hope it's a sequel but not continued from the first one. Different characters and actors/actresses. The story must be when I drawn to it. Acting must be important. A lot of CGI. More focused on the creature. Directing from the same director from the first. Nothing like Syfy channel creation. I hope this turns out well.

I really hope they dont do a POV movie of this one to. How can people like the first one you dont see a shit of whats happening becuse the camera moves up and down all the time. First you see a couple of feets then suddenly you see the sky and then you see like a leg or something on the giant bug thing. Is that the new entertainment? Just a camera bouncing around? Sadly i think it is becuse ive seen so many POV horror flicks latly and i cant say that i really liked anyone of them (okey rec was okey but not good enough).

I kinda hope they don't follow a different group on the same night. Essentially it would be the same movie right? I think they should focus more on the little creature things because they were pretty gnarly and maybe make it just a movie and not POV. I know a big part of number 1 was the fact that you didn't really get to see everything but that was the first one. Time to move on and let us see more!

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the 1st movie, but then again the hype was so massive that there was no way the movie was going to match the hype so I did lower my expectations. But for a monster movie-which is way over due- it wasn't that bad. It could have been much worse. A 2nd one would be good, especially if its from a different POV. I hope we don't get to see the much of the monster this time. Its way better when you don't see the monster. But they can only improve it from here on end(I hope.)

I'd imagine it'll be on the same night, I saw far to many other people with cameras (like the soldiers who they met all had them on shoulders) so don't be surprised if you see the characters from the first film make an appearance as the people being filmed, not the protagonists. But with different people filming you'll have very different information and the videos will reveal more, without revealing everything, about the monster. Most notably the whole bite -> explode thing, people knew what would happen well before they ever laid eyes on Marlena.

Despite other comments saying nobody survived, I do believe that Lily survives the first film as she was put on a different helicopter from Rob, Beth and Hud and left before them. No doubt then if there are soldier cams in the second film you can guess they are in that helicopter also to see her friends get pulled out of the sky. Or maybe a return to NYC years later which has been quarantined, to see what creatures still linger in the ruins?

Still if it keeps with the good characters, constant action and good emotional tension of the first film it will be excellent.

Hey this is our first American Monster, of coarse we need a sequel! I would hope its still a POV and doesn't turn into a horrible Blair Witch Project 2 (Yea I watched it) orgins sequel. I kind of like not knowing what this thing is or where it came from. Keep the footage raw and entertaining. Thats what made the frist one so interesting and fun to watch.

Honestly, how do you make a sequel? Didn't everyone die? This attempt may be a complete flop.

I enjoyed the first one and am not sure if they need a sequel... at least not from the perspective of someone else during the same situation. It should be more about what the hell the thing's origins are. That would be OK.

I'm very curious to see what direction this sequel is going to go in - if it goes past the "in talks" stage. I've heard so many different rumors of what it will be: 1)the revelation of Cloverfield's origins, 2) the night's events from another person's perspective (i.e. the guy that was on the bridge who was also recording) or 3)the events following the first movie's ending. How it will turn out? We're left to guess until it comes into fruition.
