Cloverfield was a good idea. The problem was the film had no script. The actors just faked their lines, making it up as they went along. In the DVD commentary they admit this. When the annoying "Oh god!" idiot finally got eaten, I cheered the monster. The effects were great and the monster was fantastic, but the MOVIE didn't measure up to the effects. Look at Jurassic Park. Micheal Crighton's book kicks that movie's ass. If a Cloverfield sequel gets made it should be a total military story. One idea would be that the army is told to capture the creature ALIVE, which would lead to all kinds of crazy problems. I'd have a soldier shoot his commanding officers out of exasperation, and total anarchy break out near the end with soldiers shooting FBI guys and then have the monster stomp around washington DC and tear the capital open and eat all the senators, or president Obama. I just hope they actually write a script this time.
I had no I dea it was unscripted, that explains why it felt so realistic!! I liked it
I dont think this movie is going to happen, so gives a f?
First, you think they'll let Matt Reeves on after Let Me In bombed?
Second, you think JJ Abrams is ever coming back to Cloverfield...I think he's moved on to bigger and better fare.
Let Me In was a surprisingly good remake. I was actually shocked.
Yes I agree the remake was almost on par with the original.
Well made but otherwise tediously pointless. Went to see it in theaters (regrettably), and heard crickets the entire time, probably because there was no one else there. Either that or... oh yeah that's right, it's been done already. It tanked for a reason, it simply shouldn't exist, and everyone who fell in love with the original knows it.
Let Me In was a good movie, Abrams is only a producer, what does he care?
I will be curious to see if they do the same kind of footage. The first one was so brilliant that it's almost impossible to do the same thing with a hand held camera... unless they want a ton of 'copied the first one' comments
If it was me (and I were the director) I would have the military more involved so you can use a company like CNN as the camera operators... otherwise, they should do a traditional well composed/directed monster film.
What they did show in the first one definitely made you WANT to see more of the creature/monster... just the right amount that makes you desire a part 2. Part 2 should be, in my opinion, a combination of news footage and standard movie footage
They'll probably go about it with the same formula. That's what they just did for The Hangover II
THIS WAS NOTHING SHY OF AWESOME!! THE FIRST 5 MINUTES MADE ME THINK I WAS GOING TO BE BUMMED OUT..... BUT THEN IT TURNED OUT GREAT
I LOVE THE FIRST CLOVERFIELD. THAT SHIT IS TIGHT! I'VE BEING WAITING FOR THE 2nd PART TO COME OUT SINCE! THANK GOD THEY MAKING IT..... BUT YEAH! AMA GO SEE IT FOR SURE!
this is a movie ive been waiting for...and still am lol.but yeah i thought the first one was great and it was cool how they pretty much didnt tell anyone anything about the plot and that it was pretty hyped so i didnt know what to expect.but i seriously thought it was epic and it left me wanting more.personally i dont think they should have elaborated into more about the plot in the film as it was awesome the way it was and in doing so left heaps of untied ends in which they will sus in the next movie.for instance....what the heck those monsters are! governament conspiracy etc.....
LOL...Seriously?!?!?? Id rather watch Independance Day with Will Smith again, or one of the many similair films coming out that dont look like a $1,000 film aided with someone gifted in Adobe.
i liked watching cloverfieled one and i heard this one is gonna be bitter defiantly gonna watch it
I actually enjoyed Cloverfield (and was pretty skeptical because I am not a big fan of jumpy-running Blair Witch-type movies). However, I agree with alot of the posters that important details were left out of the movie that would've made it even better. For example (semi-spoiler alert), but watching the DVD, they stated in the commentary, that the monster was a baby separated from it's mother (or something to that effect). I just didn't get that watching the movie.
However, knowing that fact, I would think that it would open up a broad area of possibilities. For instance, suppose the mother comes looking for it's offspring in the 2nd movie? And it was alot bigger than the "baby". That would be pretty terrific.
But the most intense part of the first movie for me, was those bug-like things that fell off of the creature and attacked people. That part was pretty horrible and genuinely creepy. Need more of those in the second movie
Chances are that this will suck.I can almost tell ya that this will be put is 3d.Sorry I hate 3d movies.
This film isn't really horror... just a douche running around with a camera to the most unrealistic scenario ever.
The first one wasn't that good for me but it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen. So this is 50/50 for me I will decide as it moves along.
loved the first one, cant wait for the next one...
(
absolutely one of the worst horror movies to ever go to box office....it's sad that a second one is even being mentioned....the person who is doing this is trying to make a quick buck off all the dumb hs kids that think it is scary and/or entertaining....horror/ science fiction is taking a beating with this
Dumb high school kids huh? yeah...well better than being a 40 year old virgin like you.
I can't wait!!!!. the first one was great and so realistic, in my opinion i have to disagree with some people that thought the first one was trash because they didn't explain alot. they do explain enough on websites and on the special features on dvd. they tried to make a realistic movie on what would happen if something like this were to happen in ny and they did a perfect job!!! its realistic because if something like this were to happen in real life its not like we'd know what and where the heck did this monster come from anyway and thats what makes this movie great, its so realisitic, and besides after the movie finished it had many people (including myself) searching the web for questions and finding pics and hidden videos which were great! it was like an easter egg hunt. so all in all cloverfield was perfect and i cannot wait for a sequel or any other films like it in the future like super 8!
I am hoping for a sequel to Cloverfield. Most people don't get the movie, they think it is like Godzilla, but it was sooo much more. It had a lot of mystery in it, like where did the monster(s)come from, what does it want, etc. The movie itself did not give any of those answers, but if you go online you can find all the answers. The movie , I thought, was very good what with the monster and the parasites, what happened to Marlena and all. The way the movie ended leaves sequel us thinking that the monster was somehow killed, so maybe a sequel can fill everyone in on what happened!
Hmm? Oh, no!
STOP conplaining!!!
Cloverfield was a cleaver monster flick, and what do you expect from a monster/disaster movie? Lots of action, great monster and gore.
Cloverfield was smarter and left out 2 of these 3 things, it had lots of action and disaster scenes (well made also). We didn't get to see the monster very well (Witch would of ruined some other movie, but it made Cloverfield what it is) and we also didn't have almost if any gore at all.
Cloverfield was a movie to watch for entertainment - it did well in it's genere and even pushed the limits and gave us suspens (witch most monster movies dosn't give), the fact that we didn't knew what the hell was going on and so on was great.
It's above average film with descent effects, good story and pretty good actors.
I'd give it 8/10.
I'm waiting for part 2 and 3 and 4...and 5 and so on, as long as they keep it as it was in the beginning, mysterious and creepie...
Thank you!
I'm sorry but who can say anything good about this p.o.s? I mean I saw the first one and all it's about is someone filming a party and a monster just happens to land in town and they try to escape. Ok where did the monster come from? What where those little things that kept on infecting the people? Why was the monster here in the first place? I'm sorry but I like my horror movies with a story to it. Plus I saw the special features that came with the dvd. They said the main reason why they made this movie was since japan has godzilla we should have are own monster but don't we already have king kong? Plus they where saying how this was a baby monster and those cries we heard from it was, it just crying out for its mom. If that was a baby I would hate to see the adult.
You make a some good points and the story had no base. I don't even know where they would go with a follow up. It's sad to say but I think most people just want to see some bs monster movie with no plotline.
The United States has had King kong since 1933. Godzilla didnt appear until 1954. Letsee, who has had the giant monster longer? Granted Godzilla may be more popular than king kong, but thats because the Japanese like to beat dead horses, just as Hollywood does with sequels like umpteen rockies, saws, and such. Or remaking classics. FUCK CLOVERFIELD! J.J. Abrams, you are a fucking moron!
