Cubed

No official plot yet, but (like the original) the remake will use the setup of seven strangers trapped in a giant cube-like structure.

PROJECT DETAILS:

It's been several years since the last update on this project, where the filmmakers seemed to have trouble finding the right script and direction to take. Not only have the crew moved on to other projects, Japan seems to have beat them to it, with their own remake coming out later this year. Until something official is announced, this project is presumed to be in some form of development hell. (2/2/21)

According to a recent interview with producer Jon Spaihts, the project may be on hold right now, saying: "I have been involved with it. I think it's resting right now as we look for a new creative direction, but we still are inspired by the vision of that original, independent, high-concept film. With any luck, we'll still bring a new iteration of that story to light." He goes on to say that he's not sure if Saman Kesh is still attached as director. (11/2/16)

The remake was once described as "a sci-fi survival thriller about artificial intelligence, humanity and the birth of a new digital race."

Producer Jon Spaihts is mostly known as a writer that worked on The Darkest Hour and co-wrote Prometheus.

This marks the feature film directorial debut of Saman Kesh.

The original spawned two sequels and a 2021 Japanese remake.

This is said to be a "re-imagining" of the original 1997 film, Cube, that was directed by Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Haunter).
