This film is based on the Mexican legend that translates to "The Weeping Woman." The cursed tale details the ghost of a woman who can be heard crying near rivers, as she searches for her lost children. It's said if you hear her cries to turn the other way, otherwise you may be the victim of some sort of misfortune or even death. According to the legend, it's even worse for children, whom she is apparently specifically drawn to, thinking they're her own and will attempt to drown them.
