PROJECT DETAILS:

Being a big fan of the games, John Carpenter has expressed interest in possibly directing, but only if asked by the studio. Here's what he had to say on the topic: "I'm a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a “Dead Space” film. That just went around, and everybody said, “Oh, when are you gonna do it?” I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it." (1/11/23)

Previous director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia and Eagle Eye) revealed that there's a storyline they have in mind and it's a "prequel of sorts" to the first game. He and the studio are currently still taking pitches from writers.

EA and D.J. Caruso are currently talking to a number of potential screenwriters, and once they set a writer and EA signs off on a creative direction, they will auction the property to studios.

It's said that the creators of the game were inspired by the 1997 film Event Horizon.

Based on the hit game with the same name from Electronic Arts.
