PROJECT DETAILS
  • Originally had an August 8th then an October 17th 2014 theatrical release.
  • Actor Luke Evans had an interview recently where he was quoted saying: "[Don't think] of the Dracula that Bram Stoker created. The Dracula that I'm going to be portraying is the origin of Dracula. It's about the man that became Dracula. Don't be too quick to think he's a bad guy. I'm just going to say that."
  • Art Parkinson plays "Dracula’s son, named Ingeras."
  • Thor Kristjansson plays "Bright Eyes, an Eastern European taken as a slave as a young boy and now a vicious assassin in the Ottoman Army."
  • Samantha Barks plays "a figure in Eastern European folk tales known as a baba yaga, a beautiful young woman who turns into a savage witch."
  • Zach McGowan (Shameless) plays "Shkelgim, a gypsy chief."
  • Gary Shore makes his directorial debut.
  • Previously titled Dracula Year Zero, which was then shortened to simply Dracula.
  • Was originally going to film in Australia.
  • Actor Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans) was originally set to start in the film as Vlad (AKA Dracula).
  • The story is said to be a "mix of mythology and history."
  • It's said that the film will depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.
  • Writer/director Alex Proyas was quoted saying the following about the story: "It’s Prince Vlad of Transylvania in the 14th century, and to save his kingdom and his family he takes his first step into darkness. It’s his evolution into the monster that Dracula became."
  • Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) was originally set to direct.
  • The film will supposedly offer a fresh new take on the vampire mythology.
  • The film is said to follow Vlad Tepes in the height of his power and as a hero amongst the Romanian people, before he became the mythical figure we now know him as.
  • The film will mix vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad.
  • Written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
