I kept my expectations low, but this was pretty terrible. I'm not sure that I've ever heard so much over stuffed dialogue in a werewolf movie before. The R rating is hardly justified, since there is virtually no comprehensible violence. I picked out a few little nods to the original Howling, nothing remarkable. To cap it all off we've got bargain basement creature effects and some pretty heinous digital explosions. Not sure where the October 18th DVD release date came from, but I got it at best buy today. I urge others not to do the same.

Landon Liboiron of the howling reborn is a main Character in Steven Spielberg TV series Terranova. Just a side note.

Ok, I’m not liking the way this movie is looking, especially the fact that we don’t get to see any details as to how the werewolves look like. Sure that quick run-by at the dance but that looked like something out of UNDERWORLD. Could there finally be a REAL scary werewolf like in the original Howling or American
Werewolf in London? Maybe. Could they be saving it so when you do see the movie you will be pleasantly surprised? Possibly. But they could also be some shitty ass make-up with CGI. The claws looked ok but this is a Howling movie here, I want my werewolves scary as all Hell. I’ll still see it, though my expectations are low now.

And to you danwolf02; you wonder why many of us are having a “Twilighty feeling” about this movie? Well since TWILIGHT was such a huge success with “teens” (even though it was aimed more for a female audience) Hollywood saw the loads of cash coming in and figured it set the new teen-formula for horror movies now! Literally anything that has to do with horror and teens is a watered down version of Twilight: a teen-driven plot with “teenagers”; that look more like models than average teenagers, that mostly deals with not fitting in and then the “horror” aspect is made to fit around a flimsy plotline, instead of focusing on a solid story.

Yeah GINGER SNAPS, THE LOST BOYS, and FRIGHT NIGHT are considered “teen-horror movies”, but so are FRIDAY THE 13TH, HALLOWEEN and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST.(the originals). Yet all those movies didn’t mainly focused on moody kids, they focused on being real HORROR movies. The teens in all those movies actually would pass for average teenagers. But this one has the same Twilight vibe: a “kid” that likes a guy/girl that looks like they stepped off the pages of an Abercrombie catalog who really is a “teen” vamps/werewolves whose clan is against the other. Hmm, sounds like….wait for it…TWILIGHT! It’s the very same plot! So of course many of us will be calling this Twilighty or Twilight with Werewolves. Sure there aren’t any sparkly emo kids or spooky puppies but the same plot is there.

As for the trailer, come on! It’s getting easier and easier to sniff out the turds. Trailers pretty much are giving you all the details there for you to see. It’s not hard to a get a sense as to how a movie is going to turn out now. Look at CONAN THE BARBARIAN and FRIGHT NIGHT, both had trailers that gave very mixed to bad feelings, yet many were able to sense much of how these movies would turn out.(Both pretty much bombed at the box office from what I read.) So all this Twilighty vibe and bad feelings are justified.
End.

If you watch the recent trailer it looks like they are going more for a The Lost Boys feel with a Curse of the Werewolf Love story angle. I really see nothing that suggest Twilight. The only reason i think Twilight is mentioned when you talk to Producers is because they are Trying to draw teenagers to this movie. But I think it looks like it might be Big Bad Wolf good at worst. And i enjoyed Big Bad Wolf. It my surprise me and be as good as Ginger Snaps. Small Budget doesn't always mean bad movie. Teenagers in a horror film doesn't mean Twilight wannabe.
The pack angle feels like it wants be like The Lost Boys. The Romantic angle feels like it wants to be like Curse of the Werewolf. And The look of the werewolves are looking like they will tear you apart.

Also Twilight from all i know didn't have Flamethrowers. Nor did it Have people getting torn apart. Or the fact that it seems that the main characters seem to be taking a the fight to the pack. Sorry I just pansies when i think twilight when i see this movie i see lost boys sequel or big bad wolf. Not great but not horrible. And i want you to go and watch THE HOWLING NEW MOON RISING and then watch this trailer and i promise this movie doesn't look so terrible.

What i'm saying is reserve judgement until we finally see it. For me I'm hoping for a werewolf movie that will be fun and creepy at the same time. I'm expecting something like Big Bad Wolf (which i enjoyed because it wasn't afraid to have fun) but it was a B-movie. But so far i feel good about this movie because it doesn't feel like Twilight or New Moon Rising. Plus it is rated R so that is a plus.

Am I the only one who thinks everyone is over reacting by calling it a Twilight Knock off. It is possible to make a horror film with teens that doesn't suck. But I guess none of you have seen Ginger Snaps, The Lost Boys, or Fright Night. We all know that it is a B movie but at least it doesn't look as shitty as THE HOWLING: NEW MOON RISING. I think it is funny that you look at Trailer and i don't see anything that seems Twilighty. I don't see sparkles, Carewolves, or anything like that. The Trailer feels more like The Lost Boys too me. Guy get drawn in by girl, Guy is becomes a werewolf, guy is fighting is inner instincts and other werewolves who want him to join their pack. So yea we shall see but all i know it looks so much better then New Moon Rising. Oh the best thing is there is no sign of country music or line danceing.

This movie looks eons better than New Moon Rising, no argument there. I made the mistake of purchasing that pathetic excuse for a home movie some 15 years ago. Up until that point at least...I had some fun with all of the Howling sequels. Particularly number 6, which boasted a pretty cool looking vampire on a super low budget. Somehow I doubt that this film will be any where near as good as The Lost Boys, but I understand the comparison. Of course I'm not expecting this to be the revitalization of the werewolf film.. like say Ginger Snaps and it's 2 sequels were, but maybe (just maybe) it will turn out alright. Lets be thankful for the R rating, and hope for the best.

I know it not going to be up to the lost boys standard but i think it borrows more from that type of horror film then it does Craplight thats all im saying.

the fact that the lead actor got his career starting in a canadian teen drama, i say that it's going to be pretty darn bad

Why call it The Howling? It's basically Twilight for Werewolves. I personally hate the look of this.

Finally. A movie where the actors actually look like they are in high school. Crazy

i've read the book that the original was based on and i own the original. why do the studios continue the bastardization of the classics. lame as hell guys. looks awful!

By the looks of the trailer this may prove to be mildly fun after all. Despite the high school elements, and the obvious American Werewolf in Paris take. I'm way beyond the point of expecting originality, so long as this gets an R rating and favors old school monsters to digital train wrecks... I guess I'm in.

Okay so I literally just finished watching the original The Howling, and when I first started watching it I did not think I was going to like it. But when I finally got around to watching it, it has made the top of my favorite werewolf movies list. And I'm someone who has watched An American Werewolf In London 500 times, bcuz its one of my all time favorite werewolf movies. And to be truthful I do not see this film going anywhere, I have not read the novels but from the looks of it this will more than likely be a low budget disappointment, and will not do The Howling series any justice. But it might turn out good I won't know til I watch it but I really wish someone would either remake the original and keep it as close to that storyline or rip on off of the novel and kind of start fresh but for The Howling Reborn I'm not so sure how this is gonna turn out. Drunk

When I'd first read about a remake of "The Howling" I have to admit I was pretty excited. Not only did I love the original film but I am ALSO a fan of the novels. I'd hoped that anyone daring to remake the classic original film would show some integrity and return to the source material. Brandner's novel was not particularly well represented in the original film (or in part 4 as was touted) and deserves to be filmed as is... that is, without silly Hollywood embellishments. Not only would Brandner's book make a great film but it already has two sequels that can also be made into movies! Now that would be a werewolf series designed to set the bar high for the sub-genre! There was and is no need to slap "The Howling" brand name on a generic teen-driven plot like it clearly has been with this "remake." I am not opposed to teen-driven fare, but "The Howling" series was never intended to be such and film-makers would do well to show more respect for their source material. I am disappointed but I'm sure I'll check this out... not on the big screen but as a Red Box dollar rental.

This seems to be less of a remake and more of an obvious direct to DVD low budgeter using the Howling name to gain buzz (if the goofy cover art is any indication). Just as well, any mainstream attempt at this would most likely result in a PG-13 rated generic mess.

The Howling series is the BEST WEREWOLF Movies ever filmed other then BadMoon and they are all AWESOME and not slow at all. They hav story to it and that makes it good. Cant wait for more but they beter not F it up. I own all the movies. The only Howling that sucked ass was the 7th movie called New Moon Rising. Do not watch that shity ass WereWolf movie.

The 1st flick was great. But man did they get bad fast. The Howling 3. the Marsupials. LOL. I actually kinda liked part 6 the Freaks. Anyway why is it that werewolf movies just are not good anymore? I personally think CGI has a big part in that. Actually IMO CGI has hurt the whole horror industry. Nothing worse than bad CGI.

Nick EviLycan D's picture

The 3ed Howling was sort of funny to watch but I love the story. They just needed to keep to the WereWolf effects of the first movie. The Howling 2 was good to but the Werewolf effects needed alot of work and looked cheap and sort of shity like when they are attacked by many werewolfs near the end of the movie. Nothing like the first movie that was perfect. The 4th wasnt bad eather more like the first. I liked the 5th because it was like Clue with a werewolf. The 6th was good because it had a vampire v.s a werewolf but the werewolf looked shity without the full wolf head. Howling 7 sucks ass lol

you know this movie will be shitty just from reading the plot. love stories should not be a part of any werewolf movie. I want blood, guts and gore! >)

Yeah, I have the iffy feeling as well. I want it to work but-I'm not sure. The story sounds to Twilighty to me. If they can write a decent story then it will be good, but you KNOW the FX is going to be the make-or-break aspect of this movie. The fact that Hollywood is just CGI-happy with ANY THING now, is not sitting well with me at all.

I'll cross my fingers in hopes that it turns out good, otherwise we just have to wait and see.

Hmm...Definite mixed feelings here.
On the one hand, The Howling is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, so I'm nervous they are really going to foul it up. On the other hand, the sequels are some of the worst horror movies ever so you would think almost anything would have to better than them.

I don't konw about anyone else, but I think one of the things that mad the original so great was the look of the werewolves. I don't think any werewolf since has looked as good. The werewolves in Underworld weren't bad, but they had those strange snouts...not to mention the annoying camera work that would only let you see a clear shot for about .5 seconds. The creatures in Dog Soliders would have been excellent if the heads didn't seem to be 3 times larger than the bodies.
Other than that I can't think of any werewolf fx that didn't make me roll my eyes or laugh out loud in disgust.

if this is a remake why not just call it the howling. and i agree with the kid below we do need some good werewolf flicks now that that damn twilight has made them all cute and cuddly like.fuckin jacob black you twat!

My only hope is that it will be just as good as the original, if not better. Remakes are often a hit or miss situation. But we need some good werewolf flicks.

Big O's picture
OfflineUser offline. Last seen 2 weeks 18 hours ago.

The original is one of the best werewolf movies ever made. The transformation sequences are just amazing and scary. The sequels where just awful! This is a franchise that was ruined from all those shitty sequels, and really does need to be rebooted and treated right. But if its just another remake/reimagine/rehash take on the original, then it won't work.

Using Reborn in the title I would think to starting it up where the original left off just a decades later. Have a new up and coming report investigate what happen at the station years ago. Since it was televised live, that would give it a twist to the original but still have the same fell. This way it would almost be the same story but different. But I bet anything that Hollywood will just follow the original's story, actors that look like models, and this new take will have CGI transformations instead of practical effects.

There is hope for this movie, but if its just a plain remake with a new title then forget it.

This could be 1 of 2 things: a re-imagining or a sequel.
