I've got to pick this up on DVD now that its out. I'm always a fan of the supernatural type of horror movie, and found this one to be really creepy. There were parts of it that have stayed with me. I'm glad I'll be able to watch it at home with no distractions, because judging by the remarks I've heard there are a few things I missed when I saw it in the theater!
I'm a big horror fan & have a really hard time finding movies that really scare & impress me, & this movie did just that. Let's face it, movies these days aren't what they use to be, so when a little gem like this comes around it deserves to be noticed. This movie had the right amount of scares, at the right time. The music in it, was amazing & creepy. This is one of my favorite horror movies of the decade, right along with Drag me to hell.
I don't say this about a lot of PG-13 horror films, but this one was definitely scary. I was afraid to go to sleep after seeing this at the movie theater! Definitely a good movie that I will enjoy owning on DVD or renting so I can watch it again.
I saw this movie last night and thought that this movie was great..I mean usually horror movies don't get to me, but this was actually a jumper....and showed that a movie doesnt have to have alot of blood and gore to be good.....although it helps lol...
this movie is awesome! I love it! >) >)
I am desensitized to most horror, but HOLY CRAP ON TOAST! Insidious was fricken scary. I really enjoyed it. Good scares and good fun!

Lin Shaye is a plus. PG-13 is a downer. dont care about the directors past as long as he brings his A game to this it could be good. Ill wait for the video but i think it has potential.
I'm of two minds about this movie. There's the claim that it turns the genre on its head, but the clips and trailers here belie that statement. There's nothing shown here that goes anywhere beyond "loud noises and ghostly hand prints" coupled with some over-acting and emo-Bieber on the poster. That being said, I like the premise, and always hold out hope for movies like this until I watch them. I guess we'll see.
First pic FTW!
A bud of mine saw the 3/13 screening and was floored by it..
Nothing to do with this movie, just needed a place to post this.. wondering why I cannot post on the message board? Is there a reason?
can't wait to see this movie, it looks good so far...
The trailer looks tight. I wanna see this. April 1st? I'm there. I hope to not be disappointed.
Ok....why the hell are people talking about Saw? This isn't Saw. This is Insidious. I get that its from James Wan. But really? Saying that Saw was terrible doesn't mean this is. People are too stubborn to actually not go out and see the movie. Horror movies are different. You don't need critics or other people to stir you in the right direction. These movies are here to just entertain and not really be serious. This ain't Precious. This is HORROR. So people don't read these comments and say to yourself," Since these people are saying its terrible, its terrible." Make your own decision...this is just a somewhat hobby instead of serious work. IT HERE TO ENTERTAIN.
Now that being said....I think this film is probably gonna be good. I love the Wan has his atmosphere in his movies set....its typical horror movie set but it works.
with rthis and the other pg-13 movie the roomate i really hope there isnt a nother wave of it coming our way.
A PG-13 rating, wow.. you don't say. I'm actually kinda surprised that James Wan is still in the business, after so many critical and commercial bombs. I suppose if Uwe Boll can continue to make movies, than so can this guy. It's sad that Death Sentence (which I kinda sorta liked) was his only half decent effort, and no I don't give him any credit for Saw. Saw is probably the most over-hyped and entirely overrated horror film of all time, featuring dreadful performances from some talented people, and despite it's reputation.. very little gore.
You seem to slag off everything.
I have made an account for the sole purpose to tell you that you are completely wrong.
Saw, which is a great film with a great story and good acting, was a joint effort between James Wan and Leigh Whannell, so he does get credit for it. The 'over-hyped gore' was there because it was unseen to the cinema before then, so it made an impact to the cinema.
Keyword: Impact.
Nope, It's simply my opinion.
Thank you for stating the obvious, I wasn't discrediting Wan for not being involved with Saw, I was discrediting him because Saw is mediocre. The film has only one thing going for it, and that is the last minute twist. Cary Elwes is completely miscast, and Danny Glover fails to make any kind of impression. Which is too bad, because I like both of those guys. The cast isn't even the biggest issue, the script is atrocious, and I don't think any actor could have have saved the material. I hope you're not serious when you say that the violence on display in Saw (even in the uncut version) was not known to cinemas up until that point. There have been many more violent horror films decades before Saw came along and there have been many more after it. Saw is relatively tame, and that's a fact, not my opinion. It implies a whole hell of a lot more than it shows, and it would only have impact upon those who haven't seen much.
m8 u missed out Dead Silence which was also another film by James Wan and Leigh Whannel, an amazing film with an age rating of 15 but is still a pretty good film. Saw was a good film, the others gradually got worse as the sequals carried on but the first one was a very smart, very succsessful film. if u didnt like that then i guess there's nothing to say, i aint gonna waste my time like the other people on here arguing with u im just gonna let it be, people can have whatever opinions they want.
Actually Dead Silence is rated R, but thank you for not jumping all over me for not liking Saw.
im from england an Dead Silence is a 15. i have the film an it is. might be different in america though. an your welcome m8
Ahh okay, sorry, I didn't realize that.
I am a writer and I must wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment with the script of Saw. I feel the whole idea behind the film was ingenious. They made a serial killer who has never actually killed someone. They came up with one of the greatest twists in cinema and managed to do it within the last minute of the film. The acting, at times, was laughable. Carey Elwes voice while talking to his wife was an embarrassment. He went from a threatening tough guy to a twelve year old boy. I feel Leigh did a good job considering that he is not an actor, he's a screenwriter. The atmosphere of the movie was dark and brooding and the character development was paced out perfectly. As a writer I watch movies through different eyes. I think about how I would have tackled the project differently. I can not think of a single way that I would have been able to improve on the script of Saw. I understand it's your opinion but I feel that you must be looking for flaws in films if you look at Saw so critically.
Fair enough, I'm sort of a writer myself, and I have taken several film courses, some including script writing technique etc.. but you don't need any of that stuff to sniff out the many problems in Saw. The flaws are easier to spot when the film fails to hold my interest. Cary's character was supposed to be the emotional anchor of the story, we're supposed to care about this guy, and I didn't. The man is completely and utterly unconvincing, so that being said... the movie just doesn't work. Saw has an intriguing concept albeit slightly lifted from Seven, but it was poorly executed. I disagree about the pacing, in fact it lagged quite a bit, precisely because the characters have absolutely nothing interesting to say. People that suggest that Saw represented some kind of iconic shift in horror movie violence and brutality really shock me, are standards really that low? This movie seems to elicit fierce argument in favor of it's quality from so many people and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Just look at how much has been said since I posted my first comment. It's just not that great of a movie folks, and no amount of backlash is going to change my mind. We've established quite firmly that we all have our opinions, and I know that mine is unfavorable on here. Apparently no one but myself, and most of the critics, find this movie overrated to an extreme degree.
I didn't get the vibe that you were suppose to care about Elwes' character. You were suppose to care about the predicament his wife and daughter were in. He was portrayed as a very selfish person. In fact, all the characters in the Saw films were flawed, that's the reason they are being tested. I do not understand your reasoning with comparing Seven and Saw. Besides alliteration there is no similarities between these films. I understand and respect your opinion of the film. It just seems to me like you're one of these people who refuse to enjoy things because of their popularity. I feel you would have different things to say if Saw remained an independent film and simply became a cult classic, stand alone film.
So you respect that I have my own opinion of the film but you fail to accept my reasoning for not liking it? The victims in both Saw and Seven die by virtue of their own flaws, more or less, that is why they are comparable, strictly from a conceptual point of view. I don't like or dislike a movie based upon popular opinion, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Generally.. If I think a film sucks, than I will say so, and I didn't enjoy Saw because I thought it sucked. Is that clear enough for you? Independently released or backed by a major studio, it's still mediocre.
When i first watched the film in theaters i was blown away. After i had watched it years later i realized how terrible the acting was, but the film still stayed pretty smart. The couple of films that followed showed a slight increase in acting ability and the films twists still were pretty original and shocking. The only thing that improves after that in the franchise is the gore. I agree with you when you say saw was terrible but i also have to look at the film for many of its other attributes and just swallow the nauseating performances.
"OMFG DEMONS! BRING ME MY GASMASK!"
im always down with ghost/demons fucking up children and happy families.
I'll watch anything involving Leigh Whannell and James Wan.
Same m8
it seems that whatever they do as a team seems to be an amazing film. e.g. Saw1, Dead Silence. i have high hopes for this film an even though of its age rating, im still willing to give this a go
"Leigh wrote a fantastic script that took a haunted house movie with all the usual conventions and twisted it on its head."
That's a bold statement. We shall see.
