When a stranger approaches him and tells him that his brother is actually alive and living in an underground shelter with other homeless vets, Jacob's life starts to unravel. He begins hallucinating, believes he is being followed by violent attackers and becomes paranoid about the truth of what really happened to his brother. When he discovers that his brother is alive and addicted to an experimental drug, he uncovers a secret he never could have been prepared for.

PROJECT DETAILS:

Vertical Entertainment distributes in the US. DISH will premiere Jacob’s Ladder in an exclusive July window, followed by a VOD release in August.

Originally had a February 1st 2019 theatrical release.

According to an interview with writer Jeff Buhler, the film's twist will be different than the original, saying: "The concept is really about the experience of coming home and readjusting, which is very present and poignant in the original film. Tim Robbins is a soldier who’s readjusting to life and feels like a stranger in his own city and to his family, so getting those concepts out there and really living in that space in our film was important. Then we came up with a cool twist that’s different from the one in the original, but has that same spirit: You’re following this story with these characters, and then all of a sudden everything gets flipped on its head, and you’re like, ‘Whoa! Things are different than I thought."

Karla Souza plays "Annie/Angel, a trauma nurse who works with Jacob’s medical crew in Afghanistan."

Guy Burnet (Ray Donovan) plays "Hoffman, a pharmacist at the Veteran’s Administration described as “smart, but chaotic” who supplies Jacob with prescriptions."

Fans may recognize actress Nicole Beharie from the FOX series Sleepy Hollow.

Directed by David M. Rosenthal (The Perfect Guy).

James Foley (House of Cards) was previously going to direct.

This project was originally described as a "contemporary homage to the original “Jacob’s Ladder” that introduces new situations and characters, though it will pose similar existential questions regarding life, death, reality and perception."

Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) scripts, based on an early draft by Jake Wade Wall (When a Stranger Calls, The Hitcher).

It's said that the producers are looking to develop something more akin to an homage and not mimic the original. The plan is to contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions.
