love this movie should be TOP RATED
something creepy about a 12 year old girl/vampire that could kill you so easily, great film though
i've watched this it was a little boring but the story was good it was ok i guess
Does anyone know about when this will be released to DVD?
14th march on dvd an blu-ray, hope this helps
Actually it's been out for a few weeks already, since the beginning of February. Personally I'd skip this one and buy the original, there is nothing in this tedious American version that justifies it's existence. Blatantly stealing the majority of another film does not make a great movie, it makes for a petty attempt at some quick cash.
justifying its existence??? think maybe you are looking into this a bit too deeply, you clearly made your mind up that you didnt like this film before you even watched it based on the success of the original so why watch it?
Oh I'm pretty sure that anyone who loved the original cringed at the news of this film's production. I went to see this one in theaters because Matt Reeves said in an interview that he intended to do his own interpretation of the book, as apposed to directly remaking Let The Right One In. Well... that's not what he did at all, he shot nearly a frame for frame, word for word, painstakingly pointless copy of a far superior film. Now I'm not saying Let Me In is a terrible movie, it's moderately well acted, well made etc.. but none of these things make an impression. It does nothing to stand on it's own. The CGI attack sequences are horrendous, and look to be outdated by about 10 years. Reeves has essentially taken a film that allegedly "blew him away", and ripped out all that was subtle and beautiful about it, well done indeed. This film will only impress those who haven't seen the original, or perhaps.. those who can't handle subtitles. I give credit when credit is due, but this movie doesn't deserve shit.
you are right the original was and always will be one of a kind, but i wouldnt go as far as to say it didnt deserve shit i found it entertaining and thought chloe moretz and kodi smit-mcphee did a great job considering they had to live up to the expectations of the fans of the original. not being able to "handle" subtitles and not being able to see them because you are blind are two different things so as i am sure you can imagine it is alot easyer listening to the american version, did the author of the book ever write a follow up do you know?
To my knowledge.. no follow up was written, though there may be one eventually. Well to each his or her own, I prefer the original and always will.
Agreed... I try to give everything a chance as I was enthralled with the original and never wanted it to end. That being said, I was partly excited as well as disappointed when word came of a remake. I thought it would be a way to get more out of the material I loved, but I ended up completely bored and frankly pissed off when I found word for word and/or shot for shot scenes. For me, I didn't feel the emotion I felt from the first one, maybe it was no chemistry between actors or something. It sucks though because I really like all the actors and even though I catch flak for this, I enjoyed Cloverfield (maybe even more with some dramamine). Anyways, on to the next movie.
Exactly, it sports an excellent cast, but they are all wasted here, as their talents should have been directed elsewhere. Let The Right One In is personal to anyone who fell in love with it, and Let Me In is like an assault on that affection. What irritates me the most, and I'm sure I'm not alone here, are the heaps of critical praise stacked up in favor of this new version. How can the critics be so blind to cinematic theft?!!! Most of them acknowledge that the original is a far finer film yet they insist that the Reeves version is great in it's own right. No, I'm sorry, but there's no truth in that. He doesn't even effectively duplicate what's been done, and his own contributions (what little there are) are uninteresting. I won't even begin to express my disgust for those who say that Let Me In is a better film than it's predecessor. Stephen King is quoted on the cover of the new film saying: "The best American horror film of the last 20 years" or something to that extent, that's a joke. King also said that about the remake of The Last House On The Left, so maybe he should stick to literature. Well anyway, I'm done for now.
seen it and just no....this movie shoves it's main scenes in your face more then a twilight movie. i loved the original because it always was subtle in almost everything, it made you think, made you wonder. in this, everything is set to 11 but in this case, it's bad. most of the movie is a shot for shot and line for line of the movie and not the book like reeves promised. and at other times added scenes that were neither, going further away from the source material which can work but didn't in this case.
Go Hitgirl!
I absolutely loved this, first time in a long time that I saw a remake of a non-English language movie that actually surpassed the original. At first I was skeptical, with all the talk of 'American-izing' the film. I mean, what's with this tendency anyway? When a good English-language movie comes out, you generally don't see anybody jumping at the chance to 'Sweden-ize' it or 'Korea'-ize it...
But anyway, that factor turned out to be neither a negative or a positive. Let Me In was just an incredibly powerful horror drama with award-worthy performances and a tremendous, tragic-yet-beautiful atmosphere. One of the year's best.
Before the brilliant Let The Right One In even finished it's limited theatrical run an American remake was in the works. I love the Swedish original, I love it with a passion, and many others do as well. Tomas Alfredson's masterpiece was embraced by critics as one of the best vampire films of the modern generation, an instant classic if ever there was one. Hollywood has been in a creative slump for the better part of a decade. The remakes, re-imaginings, sequels, and what have you, have been out of control and in most cases completely unnecessary. Let Me In is one of those cases. I recently read in Fangoria Magazine that director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) was "blown away" by his source material, he loved it. So that being said, I find myself somewhat baffled as to why he would want to tamper with such affection. I read a great number of positive reviews in the days preceding Let Me In's release, and you know what? I don't get it. Instead of doing his own interpretation of the novel, Reeves decided to hijack 70 percent of the original film in some failed attempt at showing respect. The scenes that have been duplicated shot for shot and sometimes word for word are emotionless and bland, without a shred of integrity or conviction coming through. It's really too bad, because the cast is excellent. Elias Koteas is underused, a man skilled in small but memorable roles, Richard Jenkins is a wonderful character actor, and Chloe Grace Moretz is an incredibly talented up and comer, who I Loved In Kick Ass earlier this year. However, none of these people succeed in elevating this story to a new level. The opening scene in which an ambulance cuts through the darkness is kinda cool, but honestly that's not much of a highlight, and a uniquely staged car crash is severely overhyped. Everything is made more obvious in this film, consider a closeup of Abby's bare feet as she walks through the snow, this is only necessary because American audiences are apparently too stupid for subtlety. The musical score, which was so beautiful and somber in the original is intrusive and manipulating in this one. There is also some terribly rendered CGI, which is so bad it distracts from the action. My favorite scene from Let The Right One In, the swimming pool finale, is rushed and quite careless in Let Me In, ultimately it is noisier and bloodier, and the result has 100 times less impact. Personally I find it irritating and offensive that anyone would label this a better film then it's predecessor, as some have. Some have even gone as far as to say that the two children are better in this version, how so? Because they speak English instead of Swedish? Come on now, think of how so much more was done with expression and body language rather than dialogue in the first film. Lina Leandersson's long black hair and sad ageless gaze, and Kare Hedebrant's awkward, slightly tortured, shyness... these two will always be the right kids in my book. The Swedish original left no room for improvement, and is vastly superior to this American copycat in so many ways that it truly begs the question: WHY!? I guess it may sound like I hated this film, but I didn't, It's not horrible, it was just one of the most tedious viewing experiences I have ever had, and as it happens... totally pointless. My advice to all of those who know and love the original is to skip this one and continue watching Let The Right One In.

This looks amazing but its not something I would go to theaters to watch, so I can't wait for it to go to DVD
I know this is very similar to the orginal but what I also know is the ending probably won't be copied because morse code is outdated now, but mabye the train will be in it.
Cant wait to see this on opening night hopefully with a friend of mine. I loved her in Kick-Ass.
I don't understand how the original is classified as a horror, it seemed more like a homosexual drama to me.
If they ain't rehashing every American horror film from 1979-1998...they're remaking every foreign one that did well too. Good job guys!
Seriously...was HL Menchen right about the original thought thing?
There is nothing new under the sun. No new ideas. The end is nigh.
I like Matt Reeves but this looks like a shot for shot remake.
This is gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
i think they should add sharks.
Adding sharks would be pointless and stupid
What's with all the "america this, america that?" It's Hollywood that keeps remaking movies. I'm an American, but i didn't have anything to do with this movie or any other movie that's been remade. I haven't seen the original, but i intend to see it before i see this version. Can't find it in rental stores, so i guess i'll have to buy it. I'm always hesitant to buy movies i haven't seen yet, so if enough of you guys tell me i should buy it, then i will.
What they don't see is that most of an "American Hollywood" movie's profits comes from OUTSIDE the United States.
The original is a good movie. You can watch it now at Netflix. In my opinion, a remake or re-telling does not ruin the original, so seeing the US version won't "ruin" the experience for you.
People hate everything so much that someone who might enjoy something is bullied into not even taking a chance. Remember, nobody new if the original was good or not until someone actually watched it.
Lets be thankful that this has an R rating, at least Matt Reeves is taking the dark nature of the story seriously.
I saw 'Let the Right One In'. Thought that was good enough. What is it with remaking a perfectly sound horror flick. What is it with American filmmakers!!?? Have a thought of their own lately?
It seems that Hollywood once again Micheal Bayed another good horror film
, but hopefully it won't be that bad and will be in wide release so i can make my judgement than
NO! i loved the book, i love the first movie, but this is a disgrace, the guy that goes into eli's house is now a detective apparantly, oskar seems to be more helpless and doesn't seem to helo eli at all which makes the relationship completly useless, almost as useless as the twilight relationshit!
Im torn here... I really enjoyed the original. However, through the trailer it looks nearly identical (only with a slight U.S. tweak here and there...) Though the casting (Eli vs Abby)just doesn't seem right. I'm gonna leave myself open to this one and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
When I first heard about this I didn't know what to think but after that trailer I know that I want to see it
I saw the original one just out of curiosity, and it ended up being a very good horror movie. Hell, I love ANY horror movie that has a great story and isn't butt-jammed with fucking CGI. This is easily one of the best horror movies in a long time.
Its sad that Hollywood can't release these films (dub them if people are that fucking lazy to read sub-titles) as is. Hollywood has to water-down elements coz the "public won't get it" or whatever their fucking logic is for dumbing down movies. Unless this rehash brings something new to the party that the original missed, this movie will suck just like all the rest of the unnecessary rehashes Hollywood has spewed out.
wow that teaser makes this look like its gonna be good
Just saying, this is going to suck. LTROI is priceless and unforgettable, Let Me In will probably be forgettable.
I loved the original. I can say that it's one of the very few recent horror movies that I actually bought instead of renting. With respect to that, what really bothers you about a remake? Don't watch it if ya don't want to. I think it's cool that other people who might not have sat down and watched the original BECAUSE of the subtitles will get a chance to enjoy one of the best movies made in recent years. Why wouldnt ya want more people to be able to enjoy something this cool? about the footprints, it depends on which vampire mythos you go with. There are plenty of folklore origins for different vampires being able to do all sorts of random crap. If youre so stoked over your ability to read subtitles, maybe you should sit down and read a couple of novels too. Parias M
This is the worst idea I have ever heard. This movie was snubbed at the oscars, and now it'll have a remake? Stop americanizing films!!
>.<..can't film makers STOP americanizing films!
The original was fucking genius, and i don't see any point of why the film needs to be re-made
THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the original. Next to the classic Dracula movies, and especially Bram Stoker's book, it is probably my all around favorite Vampire story.
That said, I CANNOT WAIT for the remake. I'm sorry, just because the original was good, nay great, doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Also, Americanization will make it more relateable to western audiences, which is important for immersion. If you love a story, you should want it to be a success, so that it's around or a long time, and for a mainstream audience, part of that is being able to connect to the character.
Bitching about remakes is like complaining about movie adaptations of books, if you cannot stand the concept of your favorite book (or movie) being told in a new movie, DON'T WATCH it.
Plus, Subtitles and Dubbing BOTH suck. When I want to watch a movie, I want to watch a movie, if I want to read, i'll grab the novelization.
The Swedish are "western audiences"
But other than that stupid statement I completely agree with you.
I think he ment america by western audiences
Chloe Moretz is the main reason I'm giving this film a chance. And since the filmmakers have stressed that this is not a remake, but rather an adaptation of the novel, I'll give them a chance there too. The original film is an all time favorite of mine, I won't expect this adaptation to be anywhere close to that. But I do have hopes that there's potential for them to churn out something brilliant (because of the source material). Good luck, and I really do hope this becomes something great and original.
I agree with you on that.
This is going to suck. There is no need to remake it.
Let it go people. Horror is about remakes... and you can't sit there and be like "DURRRRRP STOOPID AMURIKA AND DERE REMAKINGSES" Japan remade King Kong (poorly), Italy remade/ ripped off/ blasphemously sequalized the dead films, the list can go on forever of international incidents.
Your typical American doesn't like subtitles. Culture clashes irritate your general population. And movies are a cash business.
To your typical movie-goer, subtitles are as pretentious as interpretive dance. Its associated with things like black and white plotless French art films from the 40's. Unless its an epic TelToro flick anyway..
How many Dracula, wolfman and Frankenstein remakes were there?
Korea ran around remaking Ringu, Gojira and Superman.
Be glad Rob Zombie isn't the one making it.
You'd have Sherri Moon running around in a thong as a trailer park vampire, screwing the little boy with a massive hillbilly beard to any random Rush album.
This isnt fare. LTROI is a gem of a movie smiled upon by real horror fans. Cant belive hollywood is gonna try to redo this. Cant stand the fact that they think that remaking something like this will make it better. Instead all they do is turn good movies into shit more times than not. This is one of my all time favorites and really pisses me off that they even found this movie let alone thought they could make a better version. All that being said im still gonna see it just because.
