Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the "Big H Radio Team." A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lord's record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Later, Whitey plays the Lord's record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting. The original Lords or Salem are returning and they're out for blood.

PROJECT DETAILS
  • Anchor Bay Films will distribute in the US.
  • A novelization of the movie will be released a month before the film's theatrical release. Here's the book synopsis: "Heidi Hawthorne is a thirty-seven-year-old FM radio DJ and a recovering drug addict. Struggling with her newfound sobriety and creeping depression, Heidi suddenly receives an anonymous gift at the station-a mysteriously shaped wooden box branded with a strange symbol. Inside the box is a promotional record for a band that identifies themselves only as The Lords. There is no other information. She decides to play it on the radio show as a joke, and the moment she does, horrible things begin to happen. The strange music awakens something evil in the town. Soon enough, terrifying murders begin to happen all around Heidi. Who are The Lords? What do they want?"
  • Rob Zombie offered an update on the project recently, saying: "I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done." He then goes on to detail a little on what to expect from the film: "This movie is definitely a slow psychological burn…It’s a weird movie. When you watch it, it seems like there’s not a lot happening for a while. However, what’s happening is you’re starting to get sucked into the pace of the movie though. It’s a very strange movie. I wanted to go against a lot of the conventions that I’ve seen in what are considered horror movies. There are certain things that always happen. I wanted to break away from them. It’s a more psychological movie. Lots of little crazy things happen all the way through it. There’s not one particular thing where you’re flying out of your seat. The way it unfolds is like Chinese water torture dripping on you." (7/19/12)
  • Michael Shamus Wiles plays "Jarrett Perkins owner of Engine House Pizza"
  • The film will feature a faux movie titled Frankenstein Versus The Witchfinder, which will have appearances by "Udo Kier as Matthew Hopkins aka Klaus the Reaper (the hero), Clint Howard as Carlo Caravaggio (the dwarf), Dan Roebuck as The Frankenstein Monster (the creature), and Camille Keaton as Doris Von Fux (the wench)."
  • Brandon Cruz plays "Ted Delta, a local Salem drug counselor."
  • Patricia Quinn (Magenta from The Rocky Horror Picture Show) plays "Megan, a palm reader living in Salem, Massachusetts."
  • Sid Haig plays "Dean Magnus the other half of the witchfinding duo known as The Brothers."
  • Michael Berryman plays "Virgil Magnus, 50% of a well-known witch hunting duo called The Brothers."
  • Judy Geeson plays "Lacy Doyle, owner and landlady of Heidi Hawthorne's apartment."
  • Christopher Knight (The Brady Bunch, My Fair Brady) plays "Keith Williams aka Lobster Joe the host of Lobster Joe's Fishy Fun Show a staple of local Salem television."
  • Barbara Crampton plays "Virginia Cable, a camera operator for a local kid's show at Salem Public Access TV called Lobster Joe's Fishy Fun Show."
  • Ken Foree plays "Herman Jackson, one third of The Big H Radio Team. The #1 show in Salem."
  • Maria Conchita Alonso plays "Alice Matthias, wife of Salem author Francis (Bruce Dern) Matthias."
  • Lisa Marie plays "Priscilla Reed, a woman who gives her all to support "the cause of the coven" in merry old Salem."
  • Richard Lynch plays "Reverend John Hawthorne."
  • Billy Drago plays "Judge Samuel Mather a key player in the history of the Lords."
  • Dee Wallace plays "Sonny, a self-help guru."
  • Actor Bruce Dern plays "Francis Matthias, author of the book "SATAN'S LAST STAND - The Truth About The Salem Witch Trials." Francis may know a little too much about witches for his own good."
  • As expected, Rob's wife Sheri Moon Zombie will have a role in the film.
  • Torsten Voges will play "Count Gorgann, lead singer of the Norwegian death metal band Leviathan The Fleeing Serpent."
  • Jeff Daniel plays Herman "Whitey" Salvador, one third of "The Big H Team" at WIQZ - Salem's Rock Radio.
  • Meg Foster (They Live, Stepfather II) plays "Margaret Morgan the leader of a secret coven of witches in Salem."
  • There will apparently be no CGI in the film, as Rob has reportedly stated that it will be heavy in the use of practical FX.
  • Rob briefly described the tone of the film, saying: "I'm very excited about this one. It's a very different film. It's more of a slow, psychological burn as opposed to a physically violent kind of movie."
  • Rob Zombie added the following about the storyline: "There were twenty people that everyone knows about - obviously all innocent - executed as witches in Salem. The basic premise of the film is that there were a further four who actually were witches, who were killed secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem's descendants. That's when the movie jumps ahead to the present day and things start to go wrong..."
  • When announced the premise was described as being "set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches."
  • Zombie reportedly wrote the script during his latest concert tour.
  • Zombie fans will probably recognize the film's title as a track from his Educated Horses album.
  • Zombie will reportedly have "total control over the script, casting and final cut."
  • Rob Zombie said that he came up with the idea behind the film years ago, but pursued other ventures instead (Halloween films, The Blob remake). However, since he has decided not to do The Blob remake he now has his eyes set on this being his next feature.
