According to Kevin Smith, this movie may be finally moving forward, as Lionsgate is apparently interested in financing the project, saying: "I said, ‘I got this movie called Moose Jaws,’ and they were like, ‘What’s Moose Jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Moose Jaws is like Jaws but with a Moose instead of a shark.’ And they said, ‘What’s the budget on that?’ I was like, ‘About three million bucks,’ they’re like, ‘We’ll make four of them.’ So it looks like Moose Jaws is finally gonna happen." According to a recent interview, Kevin Smith is currently rewriting the script. (5/28/20)

Kevin Smith offered a brief update in a recent online Q&A, where he'll apparently be discussing the project with the people he worked with for his latest film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which means there's still interest in developing the film. Here's what he had to say: "We have a phone call about it with some of the folks that we made Reboot with next week. A conference call. So yeah, it may be bubbling back to life. Wouldn’t that be nice? Head up to the Canadian outdoors, spread far apart from everybody, making movies. One day, when we’re allowed to do that sort of thing again. So yeah, movement on Moose Jaws!" (4/6/20)

Writer/director Kevin Smith said this about the film: "Moose Jaws is like, it’s my favorite thing I’ve ever written. This is a fuckin’ fan film. This is like pouring my heart out on a page. I love Jaws, and I love Canada, and I combined the two of them. So the whole thing is beat-for-beat Jaws, up until the third act. In the third act it becomes Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, and ends with Return of the Jedi. It’s pretty magical."

In the original script Johnny Depp's character "Guy Lapointe" would've returned to lead the hunt for Moose Jaws, but Smith apparently didn't want to ask Depp to devote so much time to the project. Instead, he wrote in the Jay and Silent Bob characters to lead the hunt for the creature, but that idea was also scrapped during a rewrite. There's no word on who replaced them, but had they been in the movie Silent Bob would've reportedly been eaten by the creature.

Justin Long's character from Tusk will reportedly make an appearancein his walrus form and possibly battle the "man-eating moose."

It was originally reported that we'd see the return of Haley Joel Osment's characters from Tusk.

Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Melody Depp is best friends in real life with Kevin Smith's daughter, Harley Quinn Smith.

Much like Kevin Smith's other film, Yoga Hosers, this is reportedly set in the same world as Tusk, where it stars supporting characters and recasts the stars in new roles.

The title is a pun on Moose Jaw, a city in Saskatchewan Canada.

Described as "Jaws, but with a moose."

This is said to be the final film in writer/director Kevin Smith's Canadian-based horror trilogy, dubbed "The True North Trilogy."
