PROJECT DETAILS:

The film has been in post-production for a couple years now and according to a recent update from Doug Jones they're finally nearing completion, saying: "I’m told visual effects, combining old and new, are only a couple shots from completion, and the sound design/musical score is underway! Stay tuned!!" (3/11/20)

Director David Lee Fisher was quoted saying: "Our goal is to produce a feature-length, faithful homage to this classic masterpiece through use of an updated story structure, plot pacing, visual effects, and importantly sound and music. We believe this 'fresh take on an old tale' will bring something new to devoted fans, and excite an entire new generation of audiences as well. Our team has a lot of experience creating a movie like this, as we’ve already done it before on our previous film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. For that project we created a custom technique never before seen in the history of filmmaking. By scanning a vintage print, we were able to shoot our actors on green-screen, then layer them into digital sets recreated from the original film’s imagery."

Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) will play the lead, Count Orlok.

David Lee Fisher describes this project as a "remix" where he will mix "live-action combined with colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film."

Director David Lee Fisher also helmed the remake of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 2005.

The project ran a successful Kickstarter a couple years ago.

A remake was also made in 1979 from director Werner Herzog.

The original film was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, where the names and various details were changed because the studio couldn't obtain the rights to the novel.

No relation to the other Nosferatu project that's being developed by Robert Eggers (The Witch).

This is a remake of the classic 1922 silent film Nosferatu.
