No official plot yet, but the original told the story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground, which resulted in a very pissed off spirit.

I. Hate. Everyone.
That's how I feel about a remake for "Poltergeist". This movie is probably one of my absolute favourites. Not only does it have probably one of the best continuous shots in a film I've seen (the scene in the kitchen when the poltergeist is still just being playing and you see the table and chairs, the camera moves in a 360 pan and when it gets back to the table the chairs are all stacked up), but it has an aura. It's evil, it's cursed, it's tragic. Ugh, you'll never get this again in a lame remake. Just do everyone a favor and leave it alone.
Im at a toss up for this one. I mean if done right a remake could bring back the original in a renewed state. but could carolanne really be replaced? or even tangina (Zelda Rubinstein (1933–2010)
Who passed away the beginning of last year. Ive also heard rumors that Craig T. Nelson once stated that he wasnt going to be involved in anymore of the films after the second one.
SO if they go through with the remake who do you think should play who? keep me posted i;d love to hear some input...
PLEASE MAKE IT BETTER. That movie may be a so-called "classic", but the whole thing was totally unrealistic and unbelievable. It wasn't even scary, like I was watching Neverending Story.
I Love Poltergiest great 80's classic. I can't wait to see the remake I would love any updates on
the release date. I have read up so much on this movie it just intreges(sp?) Me how most the actors in
this movie died under such weird circumstances. I have to say I find it creepy.
Thanks Freddy - I was gonna post about the deaths too. However I found out another interesting thing about the poltergeist movies from watching THS: Poltergeist (THS = True Hollywood Story for those who don't know). The skeletons in the pool scene of the first movie were real. Jo Beth Williams didnt know until after they filmed the scene.
The skeletons that they used in the second film for the under the pool/cavern scenes were also real and when they tried to film it they had numerous electrical and sound problems. Will Sampson (the indian from poltergeist 2) stated that the set was being haunted by the souls of the bodies that they were using and they were none to happy. He actually had to do an exorcism on the set before they were able to continue filming the scenes.
Someone died right before or right after the release of each film - Dominik Dunne after Poltergiest 1 was released in Summer 1982. Julian Beck before the release of Poltergeist 2 in 1985. (film released 1986). Heather O'rouke died before the release of Poltergeist 3 in 1988.
- A earthquake in 1994 in Forest Hills near the house they filmed the first movie and the earthquake only damaged one house in the neighborhood - the poltergeist house.
Haha your welcome and i'm sorry its just when someone I know told be about this I didn't believe them so I had to check it out. Then when I did find it was true I had to put it on here, but hey you found some stuff I didn't so together we got the whole story straight.
The "Poltergeist curse" is the rumor of a supposed curse attached to the Poltergeist motion picture series and its stars. The rumor is superstition largely derived from the fact that four cast members died in the six years between the release of the first film and the release of the third, with one dying during production of the second film. Two of them died at young ages, 12 and 22. It is not clear that these particular films are atypical in the number or nature of the deaths of their actors, and at least two of the supposed victims had serious health problems before becoming attached to the film series.
The actors who are supposed victims of the curse include:
Dominique Dunne, who played the oldest sibling Dana in the first movie, died on November 4, 1982 at age 22 after being strangled by her jealous boyfriend. The boyfriend, John Thomas Sweeney, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison, but was paroled after serving three and a half years.
Julian Beck, 60-year-old actor who played Kane in Poltergeist II: The Other Side, died on September 14, 1985 of stomach cancer diagnosed before he had accepted the role.
Will Sampson, 53 years old, who played Taylor the Medicine Man in Poltergeist II, died as a result of post-operative kidney failure and pre-operative malnutrition problems on June 3, 1987.
Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne in all three Poltergeist movies, died on February 1, 1988 at the age of 12 after what doctors initially described as an acute form of influenza but later changed to septic shock after bacterial toxins invaded her bloodstream. At the time, she had suffered acute bowel obstruction, initially diagnosed as Crohn's disease, which may have been the cause of death.
The Poltergeist series is considered by some to be the most famous of a handful of movies and television series said to have been cursed.
somebody told me that anyone that acts in poltergeist dies and then he said everyone in the orginals died so..... i don't know.
Did anyone else here something about that or can back up the facts that they did die or whatever?
I know Craig T. Nelson's still alive.
.....unlike his career....
thanks
this would be a good remake
How about they make it scary this time? the original is just "cute".
"You son of a bitch. You moved the cemetery, but you left the bodies, didn't you? You son of a bitch, you left the bodies and you only moved the head stones. You only moved the head stones. Why? Why?".
That part just stuck with me all these years.
Add that line to this remake and I'll check it out.
You folks that always ask "why ruin a classic" or " why mess with perfection" have way more passion for good, original movies than the ones who make movies soley for profit and would probably truly be better at coming up with original solid flicks we so desperately want to see!
Why mess with a classic???? seriously we know the stories already and if somethings different in the story it just ruins it!
I hate most remakes but this could be made into something a lot scarier then it was Here's hoping the curse doesn't follow this time around lol
Because these directors, producers, and writers are not nearly as artistic as you'd be due to them having less passion and more greed. They are only interested in making big bucks and the lazy way to do that is to remake a good movie that also made big bucks as an original. They see remaking a such a movie as a easy payday and that's it.
it wouldn't be so bad if Hollywood would stop remaking things half assed for dumber audiences. but i'll keep my fingers crossed. this could be a really great companion film.
I can't wait to see this! I hope all the people that hate Hollywood remake's don't find out about this one...then it will be blah blah blah, I hate Hollywood! Get a life! It's a movie people, that we all enjoyed as kids. I think it's great that Hollywood remakes them for younger generations to enjoy. The originals are still there to enjoy. So right your on creative scripts, or stop your bitching!
