PROJECT DETAILS:

The movie will reportedly hit Paramounts new streaming service (Paramount+) 45 days after it's September theatrical release. (2/24/21)

The film was originally going to be released March 20th 2020, but was pushed to September 4th 2020, then again to April 23rd 2021, before ultimately landing at a September 2021 date. (1/23/21)

Originally had a May 15th 2020 and a March 20th 2020 theatrical release.

John Krasinski recently spoke briefly about the film, saying that he left "little easter eggs" throughout the movie that explain a bit more about the first and goes deeper into the mythology. He then goes on to talk about the possibility of a third installment, saying: "I can’t be like, ‘Yeah, of course, there’ll be a third!’ No, not at all. I haven’t heard from the studio that they want a third one. But the good news is that the studio and I are on the same page in that this isn’t one of those franchises where we keep pumping them out if they make money. I think we’ve proven that this is an original idea that is really beloved by people in a way that… I don’t want to break that promise to people. If I could think of a way to continue this world as elegantly as people deserve, because they gave me their trust in watching this movie and loving this movie as much as they did? Sure, but if you’re asking: do I think I could just do a third one, to just do a third one? No way.” (1/15/20)

Djimon Hounsou has replaced Brian Tyree Henry due to scheduling conflicts.

Actor Brian Tyree Henry spoke briefly about what we may expect from the sequel, saying: "I think that we’re going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think that people want to know that. But I think you’re just going to see another side of it…more of humanity that survived this thing in this next story." (6/12/19)

Filming is said to begin sometime this July with John Krasinski back to direct. Emily Blunt is also said to return.  (2/22/19)

It's said that the kids from the first movie (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) will reprise their roles.

John Krasinski is currently scripting the film with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck and had a recent interview where he explains how he's approaching the next movie, saying: "I don’t even see it as a sequel. Emily [Blunt] actually blew my mind by categorizing it the correct way after I pitched it to her. She said, ‘This isn’t a sequel at all — this is the second book in a series of books. It’s a widening of a world.’ And I thought that’s the best way to look at it. It doesn’t feel like a sequel — it’s a continuation of living in that world. I can’t wait to get in there and keep writing and see what this movie wants to allow itself to be. And that will happen in the script process and the shooting and the editing. But I think what’s cool about the second part of this movie is the same set of rules have to apply. I can’t just introduce a world where you can make a ton of sound, and if I did, there would have to be a reason for it. So it’s figuring out if there are smart and clever ways to do it." (11/30/18)

Producer Andrew Form recently revealed that they're taking their time with the sequel, saying: "[Krasinski is] definitely involved [in some compacity]. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything. It’s such a special movie to us, the experience and everything. It’s easy to rush these and we’ve made movies in the past where we’ve rushed them through and we’ve felt it, and we just don’t wanna do it on this one. We really don’t. We really just wanna take our time and as long as it takes, it takes. It has to be the right story, just like the first one. It just has to be." (6/29/18)

John Krasinski had a recent interview where he discussed what he'd like to see with a sequel, saying: "The thing that I loved in the movie, where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive? In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time." (5/8/18)

Writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck return to script. On the topic of a sequel they've reportedly said the following: "It’s such a fun world. There are so many things you could do. There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell.”

This is a sequel to A Quiet Place, which has made over $200-million on a production budget of only $17-million.
