PROJECT DETAILS
  • Originally had a November 13th 2015, and an April 1st and October 28th 2016 theatrical release.
  • Filmed in Atlanta.
  • Johnny Galecki will play "Gabriel, a handsome, pleasure-seeking professor who mentors and helps boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz)."
  • It's rumored that the character of Rachel's (Naomi Watts) son Aiden (David Dorfman) will make an appearance in the film. However, there's no word on if the original actor will return.
  • Apparently the film's story takes place 13 years after the first movie.
  • At one point the film was rumored to be a prequel that takes place several years before the events of the 2002 remake that would detail the origins of Samara and the cursed tape. This was proven false by the director.
  • Alex Roe will be playing "Holt, who is the boyfriend to Lutz’s character and becomes distant from her after watching the tape."
  • Also known as The Ring 3.
  • Originally titled Ring 3D, when it was still obviously aiming to be in 3D.
  • Naomi Watts will not return, as it's said to feature an "all new cast."
  • It's said that the producers hope to "re-invent the franchise" and aim it more towards a teen audience, with one possible scenario involving teens stumbling onto the cursed tape and a working VHS player (*gasp*!).
  • Written by David Loucka (Dream House).
  • Original producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald return.
  • Original Ringu and Ring 2 remake director Hideo Nakata once expressed interest in returning for another sequel.
  • Talks of a third installment has been around since the release of the second film back in 2005.
  • No relation to the Japanese film Ring 0: Birthday, which was also a prequel that detailed the origins of the girl in the tape.
  • No relation to the 2005 short also titled Rings that bridged the gap between the first and second films.
  • The third installment in the US Ring remake series.
