Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?
- The Spierig brothers offered some new details on the film recently, confirming that there will be tons of new traps and gore, but also offer a bit of fun as well, saying: "We’ve got some pretty wild traps in the film — we don’t shy away from the gore. It’s such a perfect Halloween scarefest. It’s perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun, which is something we tried to inject into it. But it’s still full of good fun gore, that’s for sure. And, on top of that, it’s got a really great mystery, and there’s very interesting twists. It’s Saw for 2017." (7/13/17)
- Previously titled Saw: Legacy.
- Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Supergirl) and Hannah Anderson (Lizzie Borden Took an Ax) are the first to officially join the cast. (1/25/17)
- There have been a lot of rumors lately, specifically that Tobin Bell will somehow return as "Jigsaw," as well as Jon Cor's character, "Ryan" (and possibly Brad) from Saw 3D. While these rumors may possibly be proven in the future, at the moment they are simply rumors and should be treated as such. (11/2/16)
- Composer Charlie Clouser returns to score the film, saying: "I’m psyched to be scoring the re-invention of the Saw franchise. I think the Spierig brothers can deliver a fresh take on the material that will establish a new story line and new characters that can carry the saga into the future. After a six-year break from the world of Saw, this will be an opportunity for me to re-imagine how I approach the score, and I’ll be trying a more stark, bold, and stripped-down approach that will be more in line with the strong vision that the Spierig brothers are bringing to the table." (10/7/16)
- Directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers).
- Written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (duo behind Sorority Row and Piranha 3D).
- Original director James Wan and original screenwriter Leigh Whannell will once again only be serving as executive producers.
- No word on who (if any) of the previous cast/characters will return.
- This is the eighth film in the Saw franchise, which will reportedly "re-invent" the series.
