PROJECT DETAILS
  • You can view a motion poster for the film here and here.
  • Michael J. Bassett hopes to see the movie in theaters sometime in the late Spring or early Fall 2012.
  • Michael J. Bassett gave a brief update on the project recently, saying: "Movie is still in post. Picture is pretty much locked, FX are all in process but as they’re 3D it’s taking a little longer than anticipated. Sound design team are working hard, composer is just about to come on board and begin, trailer is being cut over these next few weeks... stuff is happening." (10/30/11)
  • FX artist Paul Jones spoke a bit about the new designs for the film recently, saying: "There is an element for the first movie that Patrick [Tatopoulos] did that we have to be loyal to. The Red Pyramid is back, we essentially rebuilt the Red Pyramid from the ground up.  Aesthetically, it looks the same.  But it's a whole new build.  The nurses are brand new, we ended up redoing everything that Patrick did and they're redoing all of the costumes.  We had to.  They wanted all of the stuff from the previous movie, but that was six years ago and that stuff is rotten now, so we re-did all of that."
  • FX artist Paul Jones reportedly designed four new creatures that we'll see in the movie.
  • Filming began on March 7th 2011 in Toronto.
  • Filming was originally aimed to begin in the Toronto area sometime winter 2010.
  • Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix trilogy, Memento) will play "Claudia Wolf."
  • Malcolm McDowell (Easy A, A Clockwork Orange) plays "Leonard Wolf."
  • Michael J. Bassett had this to say about the Vincent character in this film: "I always found Vincent in the game a fascinating but ultimately redundant character.  He’ seemed to me to have no purpose in the narrative other than to offer a counterpoint view of what the Order/Claudia are doing. He is, if you like, the acceptable face of the zealots. His ideas and dialogue are interesting and I wanted to preserve some of that but I also wanted to use him in a more dynamic and interesting way for the film narrative.  How it plays out in the movie, you’re simply going to have to wait and see but I don’t think it’s going to be exactly what any of you think.  (or maybe it is. I don’t know.)  Will some of you hate it? Absolutely.  Because it is different.  But will others maybe think it’s a neat twist on what you would expect?  I hope that too."
  • Actor Kit Harington plays "Vincent."
  • Actress Radha Mitchell returns as "Rose."
  • Actor Sean Bean returns as "Christopher."
  • Actress Deborah Kara Unger returns as "Dahlia Gillespie."
  • One of the producers was quoted saying: "We are all excited to have the Silent Hill team reunited in Toronto. With Michael at the helm, we will be building on the first film and taking Silent Hill into new territory with an exciting storyline and visuals that should grab both new audiences and fans of the Silent Hill franchise."
  • Michael J. Bassett had this to say about what fans can expect from the upcoming film: "I love the games and was a huge admirer of the first film. Especially how Christophe Gans and his team managed to capture the look and feel of the world. I say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,  so I’m bringing back as many of that core creative team as I can – but I’m probably going to bring just a little more darkness and fear into the mix as well.   I love the complex mythology and psychological twists that Konami created so will do my best honour that aspect too.

I’m determined to deliver a film that builds on the qualities of the first film and draws on the best aspects of the games whilst giving the audience more nuanced characters, a compelling story and introducing some terrifying new monsters (as well as bringing back a few favourites) and, most important of all… just scaring the shit out of everyone."
  • Writer/director Michael J. Bassett also worked on Deathwatch, Wilderness, and Solomon Kane.
  • Tthis will obviously be in 3D.
  • The sequel to the successful game-to-film adaptation.
