Stake Land
In a fierce, alternative vision of Americas bleak future, a young boy is about to learn how cruel the world can become. Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster.
And from the ashes rose a new breed of terror. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nations abandoned towns and cities, and its up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continents New Eden.
With his family slaughtered and his world splattered across the backroads of the nations northeast, Martin is taken under the wing of this mysterious stranger, learning the ways of the hunt and the cold reality of survival in a world left to fend for itself. Along their journey Mister and Martin discover firsthand the horrors of small town American extremism and are forced to ponder which is more bloodthirsty— the starving vampires or the corrupted humans who seek to control them.
Armed with a trunk full of wooden stakes and a desperate will to stay alive, Mister and Martin make their way through locked down towns, recruiting fellow travelers along the way— a devout woman of god, an abandoned Marine, and a pregnant musician all on their way north to safety. But a nationwide Brotherhood of violent, end-of-days survivalists is just one obstacle that stands between them and freedom.
Welcome to Stake Land, kid...

Two of my favorite things, post apocalypse and vampires, put em together and you have Stake Land. Writer/Director Jim Mickle first gave us Mulberry Street, an ultra low budget take on the undead outbreak formula, only with rat monsters instead of zombies. I was impressed with that film and what Mickle was able to accomplish with so little. Stake Land, while certainly not big budget by any means, steps it up a notch or two, and has obvious craft and ambition, it may not have the funds to fully realize all of it's concepts, but we can't fault it for that. This movie is awash with anti-religious sentiment, and I'm all for that, one of the benefits of making an indie film is the freedom with which one can express his or her opinions. The film boasts some pretty fearsome looking bloodsuckers, and is well acted by it's cast, made up of largely unknowns, with the exception of genre vet Danielle Harris, and Kelly McGillis. When all is said and done, this isn't anything new, but if you've got the goods to churn out an old product with a fresh scent.. than more power to you. Stake Land is gritty, bleak, and bloody, the way I like it, even if it does offer just a small glimmer of hope in the end.
By far the best horror film I've seen this year and probably going to be the contender for best horror film of 2011 just about beating Black Death. The film is full of dread, macabre, terror, pain and sadness but also filled with hope. The acting is surprisingly good for a independent, low-budget vampire/apocalypse flick with Nick Damici and Connor Paolo being the standout and to me breakthrough performances as vampire hunters on a journey to salvation. The atmosphere, vampires and unbalanced human beings doing evil deeds against one another sends chills down my spine and is terrifying and raw that makes this movie stand above the rest of its kind and raises the bar for vampire/apocalypse movies, it packs a bleak punch. The movie kind of though goes through similar territory from movies like The Road, Carriers, Daybreakers, Zombieland without the comedy aspect and a dose of Black Death but it still manages to stand on its own and it's very novel in its own right. The movie is pretty brutal throughout and doesn't hold back and is definitely not for the faint of heart or the easily offended and that's what I like about this movie because it's very bold and brave and is balls to the wall type of attitude that's rare and usually can't be found in most wide released, mainstream horror flicks and it's like a present to fans who like their vampire movies hard and mean and are sick of movies like Twilight who are giving them a bad name, so thanks for this movie it's a gem! Overall I was impressed and a movie like this deserves all the fans it can get and deserves a wide release and not shocking it doesn't because hollywood is too dense to see a great movie even if it slaps it in the face! The ending left it open for a sequel so I really hope we get to see the light of day of Stake Land 2, bring it on geniuses. Highly recommended! 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.
Despite the April 19 VOD date, this film has yet to become available, I've checked every day. I'm getting quite anxious.. particularly after the very good reviews.
The trailer looks pretty cool.
A Vampire integrated Zombie flick. Neat!
This sounds like it could be good can't wait as it moves along

Mulbery Street - rats + vampires + vampire slayer + Danielle Harris = Stake Land. CANT WAIT
I can't wait to see this movie.
The teaser looks good, but the tag line's got me:
"A road movie with teeth."
I'm so there now.
Danielle Harris =

I will see this.
lol Sweet Canada man. lol But ya the movie sounds like it might be a good Vampire movie. Something like Daybreakers. But that one was ok. Could hav been beter. Ill see how this one is.
always love the shit out of Danielle Harris but GOD! cant someone just make a vampyre movie with out a Vampyre slayer? its scarier if the characters don't know what they are doing.
