PROJECT DETAILS
  • Filmed in LA.
  • Director Johannes Roberts had another interview where he spoke a bit more about the film and how their truck will play a bigger role this time, saying: "We play with the truck a lot in this one, and that’s kind of fun. It has a slight Christine feel to it. That’s kind of cool. You know, The Strangers’ truck in the first one. That plays quite an iconic role in this." Adding... "I love the first one. I think it’s a super cool movie,” he said. “It’s really smartly put together and I think [Bertino] did a really good job of creating a really oddly paced movie. In a good way. You know, people have played with the whole mask thing since then… they haven’t really done that sort of pacing, and set it in a drama, or the feel the first one had. So it’s a great opportunity to try something a little different, for me. There’s a real grounded drama. You really buy into this family and the journey they’re going through before everything goes horribly wrong." (6/21/17)
  • Director Johannes Roberts was recently quoted saying the following about the film: "It’s going to be great, I hope. I’m in week two of filming. It’s Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison, Lewis Pullman, and they’re fucking great. It looks absolutely incredible. I love Bertino’s film, I think it’s an amazing movie and tonally this movie is going to fit very well into that universe. It has a real strong emotional heart, which the first one did, and it has a very cool retro feel to it, a lot of sort of references to… I mean, I always bring a lot of John Carpenter with me because that’s what I grew up on, but also maybe going back a bit earlier to the seventies movies, from Don’t Look Now to Duel, the Spielberg movie, even Christine a bit, the John Carpenter movie. All of these influences are finding their way into the movie, but I think it’s going to be a real fantastic movie. I’m super excited about it." (6/16/17)
  • Directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down).
  • It looks like not much has changed since the last update. Producer Adrienne Biddle had this to say about the current status of the project: "Bryan [Bertino, writer/director of the first] and I and our company are not attached to the project at this point. He wrote the original script, which I will say is a fantastic piece of writing, but he was never going to direct it, and it’s in Relativity Media’s hands following the sale of Rogue to Relativity. With all the troubles they’ve had, I don’t know if it’s going to happen. If they can get their financial act together, maybe, but it has almost happened two or three or four times over the last five or six years, so I’ll believe it when it see it." (11/21/16)
  • Originally had a December 2nd 2016 release.
  • According to producer Roy Lee the film may not meet its December release, as filming hasn't even begun yet, apparently due to financial issues. Here's what he had to say: "We have a script that’s fantastic, but they’ve had some financial difficulties so it’s unclear as to whether or not they’ll be able to finance the movie." (2/22/16)
  • Filming was originally said to begin sometime in September '09 then again sometime in 2011 and most recently sometime in the Spring of 2015.
  • Ben Ketai (30 Days of Night: Dark Days) scripted the latest draft.
  • One of the producers revealed in a recent interview that the script is "great" and they're in the process of getting things together and moving forward with the project sometime this Fall. (4/16/12)
  • New York Knicks basketball player Amar'e Stoudemire was reportedly in negotiations to executive-produce the film.
  • No word if this will go straight-to-DVD or theatrical.
  • At one point French helmer Laurent Briet and Marcel Langenegger (Deception) was going to direct.
  • Rogue Pictures hopes to bring back Liv Tyler and the original villains.
  • Original writer/director Bryan Bertino returns to script.
  • The sequel to The Strangers.
