PROJECT DETAILS
  • According to original Troll Hunter writer/director, Andre Øvredal, the studio is no longer pursuing a remake. Apparently after the remake was announced and Neil Marshall was set to helm, his schedule got incredibly busy, mostly with episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones, so it caused a delay in production. Now it appears that the remake rights have reverted back to Øvredal. He confirms all this in a recent interview, saying: "[The movie] is not going anymore. We [Øvredal and the Norwegian producers] got the rights back, and I don’t think they will be pursuing another remake.” Adding... "I was very happy with what I read; I never communicated with anybody about it, but I read on-line that Neil Marshall was attached to direct it, and I was like, ‘OK, I can get behind that,’ and then suddenly it didn’t happen. I believe that just after signing up for Troll Hunter, Neil got too busy with Game of Thrones, and that’s what stopped it; that seems to be the case, anyway, and then it just kind of died. (11/10/16)
  • Filming was originally aimed to start sometime in early 2014.
  • Director Neil Marshall also helmed Dog Soldiers and The Descent.
  • Budgeted at an estimated $25-million.
  • One of the producers was quoted saying: "Troll Hunter was a visceral, thrilling, cinematic rock and roller coaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an international audience to this amazing moviegoing experience."
  • A remake of the 2010 Norwegian film with the same name.
