PROJECT DETAILS
- Filmed in Vancouver.
- Co-director Bjorn Stein confirmed in a recent interview that this will be the start of a new trilogy, saying: "[This] is the beginning of something new. I'll say that our ending is totally leaving the door open for a future."
- Originally titled Underworld: New Dawn.
- The original premise is as follows: "After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her, they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all."
- Though unconfirmed, actress India Eisley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) may be playing the role of Selene's daughter.
- Actor Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell, Takers) plays "a police detective who hunts [Selene] and ultimately teams up with her."
- Fans of the series got a chance to submit an audition of themselves for the chance of a speaking role in the film by clicking here.
- The film once had a January 21st then a September 23rd 2011 theatrical release.
- Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are a Swedish directing duo that made their English-language debut with Shelter, starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
- It's said that Selene now has a daughter in the film.
- Recent reports indicate that it will no longer be in 3D, however no official word has been released.
- Original writer/director Len Wiseman was originally thought to be returning, but is only serving as producer.
- John Hlavin was quoted saying the following about the project: "I can tell you it's not a prequel. It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
- Writer John Hlavin also served as writer for the FX series The Shield.
- Actress Kate Beckinsale reprises her role as "Selene."
- Previous director Patrick Tatopoulos will not be returning.
- It's said that this will be the start of a new trilogy of sequels.
- The fourth installment in the Underworld franchise.

Watched this @ the Theatre last night, story has changed a bit.Is A very good movie though despite missing the original Director Len Wiseman >)
This series gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling. The cobalt blue hues, the scenery munching, the monsters, the blood&guts, and of course Kate Beckinsale back in action. Underworld: Awakening overcomes a sloppy start and kicks into high gear by about the half hour mark. Charles Dance is around to at least partially fill the hole left in Bill Nighy's absence. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of these movies, but this one probably has more in common with Evolution than it does with the other two. It forgoes the syrupy substance of the mythology and opts for straight ahead action instead, but I'm okay with that, I had a good time.
Ok I was just thinking of how they could end this, then I thought of a really cool one. Ok so it could go with Selene killing the 12ft lycan and her, Eve, and that one blond vampire about to leave when the door to the liar they are in his kicked in and the army runs in and surrounds them. Then howls are heard and when they look up at the roof Lucian is standing there with an army of lycans behing him.
That would be an epic ending to the movie, but the franchise will be left open for new blood to take over. I don't thinks this is a good idea... someone could come in and ruin it.
I plan on seeing this opening day, can't fucking wait
! Anyone else plan on seeing it opening day?
And finally it's coming out, and IN 3D question is will it be any good?
We shall see I guess, although I wouldn't count on the 3D adding anything to the viewing experience. Unless of course that happens to be your kind of thing. I've enjoyed all of them thus far, with the cast and crew behind this one I have no reason to expect a disappointment.
Is that Marcus in that one pic?!
IF it is, its a different actor.
come out already!!!
The first underworld is awsome. part 2 was alright. rise of the lycans was cool. this ones gonna rock. it looks like selene is gonna kick alot of butt. i love watching her run around in that tight body suit beating people up. hot actress + blood and gore = a good flix. i wonder if they'll have another one of those endings that will make you go WHAT!, but i thought that was it until next time. da da da!!! p.s. why did they have to make a cartoon anime. whatever, its there story they can do waht they want i guess.
That trailer looks AMAZING!!!
The new trailer sheds some light on a few things, looks more intriguing now. As long as it meets the series requirements via an R rating I'll be excited.
There seems to be a lot of Kate Beckinsale love on this site. I always thought her snotty character in Underworld had it way too easy. If she has a daughter it might be a set up for Kate's death, a passing of the torch thing. The "protector" cliche worked for Aliens and Terminator 2, but I think it's tired now, unless they reverse it and have the daughter turn traitor and help the humans KILL Selene. I'm also a little fed up with werewolves being treated as mindless rampaging inferiors. Hopefully some hero werewolves with personality will be introduced. Vin Diesel, Rob Zombie, Christian Slater, and Charlie Sheen would all make good werewolves. Plus we need some hot werewolf CHICKS in the series for god sake. I'll take Rose McGowan, Eliza Dushku, and Michelle Rodriguez. NOW we got a movie! Kate who?
My "meh" sense is tingling.
Just in case the 3D diehards decide to get ticked at me....I am a HUGE Underworld fan, but what is with the 3D decision?
Personally,I hate 3D. It is actually hard on the eyes.
All this movie needed was great special effects. The trailer looks good, but we shall see. Fingers are crossed.
I hear ya, I'm not much into the 3D myself, it's more distracting and annoying than anything else. Course.. it'll be released in 3D and 2D most likely.
HOLY SH*T on the trailer!!! This looks pretty awesome, I'm waiting for it :D♥
The trailer implies solid B movie fun, just like the previous three. So provided this gets an R rating, I'm on board.
New Dawn probably sounded a bit too "Twilighty".
I'm liking the sound of this plot alot better than the first one.
This may have potential, then again it does sound a bit like something The Asylum would distribute "super lycans"
... maybe i'll see it... if i don't die holding my breath waiting for an Underworld: Origins movie about Marcus and William, which I'd much rather see.
What I want to know is what are they doing with Michael is he going to even be seen or talked about at all
Awakening? Why not "New Dawn"?
(
Deffinetly liken this new title over the old one, man I'm pumped for this its gonna kick ass.
As long as Kate Beckinsale is returning and not Rhada Mitchell, I'm there.
Radha Mitchell had no part in any of the Underworld movies, Rhona Mitra did, and as far as I know she is not in this.
I'm not so sure about the storyline. Sounds like the movie may end up being a big farce. We have enough Bio/Scientific storyline with Resident Evil. We don't need that here, and please, no 3D for these movies.
You just don't dump a child into the midst of this without some kind of lead in with Selene and Michael. Plus, there is what she had to say at the end of the second film about having to deal with other covens that would probably be hunting her. That's what should be focused on.
Personally, I would have liked to see them carry on with Lucien, and the war with the Lycans and Vampires, and show where Selene enters the picture. Instead, they are going to give us some half-assed story. I love and own all the Underworld movies, but this one may not be joining the other three.
Oh yes, for the person who said Rhona Mitra sucked as Selene......What movie were you watching because it sure wasn't Rise of the Lycans. Rhona played Victor's daughter Sonja and she did a great job. Selene didn't even exist at that point in time . People need to stop comparing them anyway. They are two totally different characters.
Selene did exist she was a lil girl at the time when the whole thing with victors daughter n Lucien was going on remember Markus was in sleep along with the chic elder vamp from the 1st and 2nd that help get Markus brother William. Selene dad and family help build Williams prison so Selene was around she was just a lil girl at the time . the problem i have is at the end of 2 wasn't selene turned back human for killing markus and also why bring a kid into the mix it would be better if the other covens were after her and michael still or if someone in her family was turned in a vampire but she didn't know they was turned because she was led to believe everyone in her family was dead or what if victor had a son that was leader of a coven n he was after selene and michael that would have been better plot
idk about the plot of this story i dont like the fact that there going to have some scientist trying to make super lycans sound b movie to me, and as many of u have said what up with scott speedmen.
i will see this movie but i hope they change the plot or atleast make it not some lab experiment bull.
on a different note whos with me on a sequel to rise of the lycans were lucian goes to other lycan camps/ castles and infiltrates them to free others maybe entering the time when selen was found
Ok if Alice (Resident Evil, before she lost her powers) were to fight Selene (Underworld) who would win in a fight? Neither have guns or allies just a one on one fist fight.
Stephen Rea is a welcome presence, I'm a little bit more enthused now.
So are they going to pretend like Michael never existed, is a different actor going to play him, did he die?
this series needs an improvement.
it needs sharks.
badly.
Evil sharks with lasers on their heads?
ROFLMAO
i liked all their movies, but i really liked the second one better..the werewolves were amazing and looked so real!!
i can't wait until the 4th one comes out..
i love thriller /horror movies...oh yeah,i love Lucian the best!! i wish there was some way you guys could bring him back!!!
bummer
the underworld movies by far are the best and hopefully they will bring Lucian back just cuz he was the first of his kinda so maybe his powers can be different from the rest and im very curious wat are the powers of a born hybrid...the mother also isnt a normal vampire and the father is already a hybrid so now there child might have some awesome power that we even havent seen before >)
yes but rhona mitra was horrendous a Selene
Rhona Mitra didn't play Selene.
In the words of The Miz...AWESOME!!
I enjoyed the Underworld series so far, and welcome another one!
I loved the first three films, but I am passing on this flick. I have never heard of these directors and I doubt they will make a great flick with the given storyline. If they came up with a better storyline maybe I will rent it from Netflix or something.
If Michael IS dead, maybe Lucian IS NOT, so he can team up with Selene... That would be just GREAT !!!
Getting Lucian back would be awesome but I doubt it would happen because Lucian was dying from a single silver nitrate bullet but then Kraven unloads on him so i'm pretty sure he's dead
If we didn't SEE him die, he can be brought back (Remember Whistler from the first Blade movie?)
I love the Underworld films and im glad this will start a new trilogy
I don't know how I feel about this plot... How u not know you have a 14 yr old daughter...and in a coma for 15yrs but have a 14 yr old daughter?????
Well don't be so quick to judge. You never know what exactly is gonna go down, hell that haven't even started shooting the film yet. Give it time and i am sure they will have a more concrete plot towards the end of summer.
