In 2007, forty-nine people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong's claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Yong must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.
- The movie will receive a "road show" release, where it will hit select U.S. theaters in October 2017 as part of an event called the "Victor Crowley Road Show", wherein writer/director Adam Green (and other cast) will travel with and introduce the film at special one-night screening events across America. Internationally, the film is slated to bow at festivals worldwide - it will receive its international premiere August 26th at FrightFest in London, England.
- Adam Green spoke a bit about the story in an interview, saying: "The only survivor that was ever found was Perry Shen’s character Andrew Yong. Now, ten years, later, he’s kind of become a little bit of a celebrity. At one point he’s compared to ‘the OJ Simpson of Honey Island Swamp’ because most people do not buy his story, but he got off because there was no evidence that he had done it. So, some people love him, a lot of people hate him, and now he’s written a book, which he is promoting on the tenth anniversary of the events of 2007. He is convinced to do one final interview back at the scene of the massacre, where he has never returned. Simultaneously to him going back there with this camera crew, that’s going to interview him, there is something else happening that brings back a little certain somebody." (8/22/17)
- Parry Shen returns as "Shawn."
- Kane Hodder returns as "Victor Crowley."
- Original Hatchet writer/director Adam Green returns.
- While it is a sequel it has also been described as a "reboot" to the franchise.
- Apparently this project has been under wraps for the past couple years, with no one outside of the cast and crew aware that a sequel was even in production. It wasn't until the film debuted unexpected at Hollywood's ArcLight Cinema on August 22nd shocking fans, celebrities, and industry professionals who gathered to celebrate at what was coined a "Hatchet 10th Anniversary Celebration."
- This is a sequel to the Hatchet series that's set a decade after the events of the last film.
