PROJECT DETAILS
  • Filming in Malta before relocating to the UK and then Hungary. Filming is estimated to last until well into the Fall. (6/16/11)
  • On Monday, October 10th 2011, a SWAT team raided a warehouse in Budapest that houses weapons being used in the filming. They seized 85 weapons, which were mostly automatic, military-style assault rifles. Apparently the issue is that the guns came with paperwork claiming they were non-functional, however, they were actually fully-functional and in working order.
  • The film is reportedly already "over budget" and "over schedule." (10/11/11)
  • Actor David Morse plays "a prisoner living in an abandoned jail."
  • While shooting in Glasgow's George Square, a woman fell and was nearly trampled by several extras during a chaotic scene involving dozens of people running from zombies. Brad Pitt reportedly saw her fall and went to her aid, helping her up and to safety, avoiding potential serious injuries. (8/27/11)
  • Director Marc Forster had an interview on the changes made for the film adaptation, saying: "The idea, obviously the book is not written as a narrative, you try to take things from the book, but at same time you're changing certain things. I do feel we're trying to keep it in the spirit of the book because it's important. We are doing our own film, telling our own story because we had to. But trying to still include as much as we can from the book." As far as whether the zombies will be fast or slow, he added: "In Max Brook's book they move in the George Romero fashion. I feel like we have a little bit different approach. But it doesn't exclude that they might not eventually be fashioned how George Romero's zombies move, it's just a little bit different approach. I think that will probably be the biggest discussions that there will be."
  • The original premise was thought to follow more closely to the book, which detailed the aftermath of a zombie outbreak told through a series of interviews with survivors. Brad Pitt will star as a U.N. researcher conducting the interviews.
  • Bryan Cranston is said to have a "small, but flashy" role in the film.
  • Elyes Gabel (Game of Thrones) will play a character named "Fassbach."
  • Matthew Fox (Lost) and Ed Harris were in talks to join the cast, but Fox had to bail out due to scheduling conflicts, while there's no word why Harris didn't officially sign on.
  • Actor James Badge Dale (Rubicon, The Pacific) plays "an American soldier who tries to alert authorities that the zombie threat is real."
  • The story is set 10 years after the global zombie epidemic.
  • Mireille Enos (HBO's Big Love) plays Brad Pitt's wife in the film.
  • The studio was reportedly originally aiming for a 2012 summer release.
  • Brad Pitt (who also produces) will star in the film as a U.N. researcher.
  • The film will feature the book being written as the writer will make his way around the world interviewing people, adding their own stories as well as his into the book.
  • Brad Pitt's Plan B will produce.
  • J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) scripted a draft.
  • It's said that owning of the rights sparked a bidding war between Paramount and Brad Pitt's Plan B production company, with Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCarprio's Appian Way on the other side of the table.
  • Paramount Pictures owns the movie rights.
  • Based on the new novel by Max Brooks (The Zombie Survival Guide).

just watched the new clips. Did they even read the books? In one of the clips you see a person attacked and turning in a zombie, they were fast zombies, nothing like in the book. well it look like hollywood again got hold of a great premise and then ruined it. Thanks asses.
They movie is about a guy who has to save the world from an infection and not about the aftermath? The book took place 10 years after the last battle was fought bad Pitt, stop ruining movies and go back to supporting roles, you know like what you did in True Romance.
I and a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this and you made it another 28 days later, thanks so much were coming up with an original idea. At least we have The walking dead series to rely on for a good story.

I have to agree. Also I may be mistaken, but alot of the "zombies" don't appear to display much damage, much less blood. Are these practice run throughs without make-up, or are they going to (shudder) add the effects later digitally. DON'T F' THIS MOVIE UP!

I find it very intersting that Brad Pitt is in zombie movie all thing. I didn't think he really did these types of movies much less horror movies. The last one he was in was interview with the Vampire.

Indeed, this movie will be made. When I heard that Brad Pitt's production company bought the rights to World War Z I was pretty enthusiastic about it. Still my anticipation grows to see Max Brook's world come to life, however, I'm guessing that AMC's series, The Walking Dead, will be the revival of the zombie-horror genre, just like what Twilight did for making vampires cool again. If the series is a success, then World War Z will ride the coat tail of the Walking Dead. Make no mistake, the novel, World War Z is fantastic, and in my humble opinion, buying its rights is a smart investment for Pitt's company. After the whole Werewolf and Vampire trend dies down, the zombie will rise once again. Then hopefully we'll see another "of the dead" film from Romero. Zombie fans will have their day with all the crappy merchandise they can stomach. "When there's no more room in Hell the dead will walk the earth." And When the Vampire and Werewolf have grown old and tired, the zombie will prevail, hopefully anyway. And how cool is it to Brad Pitt in a Zombie movie? Seriously, as he has gotten older, he has reached a higher level of cool.

Romero is still making "of the dead" movies. he puts one out every couple years, there just all terrible and its embarrassing how bad some of them are he forgot what it takes to make good zombie movies.

I agree with everything you said, except for Twilight being cool ( wink) If you like the Twilight books might I suggest The Host, by the same author. It's her first adult novel. Smile

This is great! We'll finally get to see Brad Pitt starring in a horror movie. It is the big screen adaptation of Max Brooks' zombie horror novel, "World War Z". This has long been rumored and now it is confirmed. The movie is said to be released by summer 2012. With all the preparations being done, I'm pretty sure this will be a great movie.

Seven wasn't a horror movie that was murder mystery, and Twelve Monkys is a Sci-Fi. The only horror movies he was actually in were Cutting Class and Interview with the vampire

The book will still be way better once this film hits in 2012!

I was hoping it be made into a HBO series as I would like to see all the stories come to life as it will be apparent that some stories will be omitted for times and pacing!

Hopefully the film will be F'N epic! Crazy

This is going to be fucking EPIC. Both books were amazing...my only questions is that the info above says that this movie will be based on the new novel by Max Brooks {Zombie survival guide}..so why is it called World War Z after the other book? Either way, I'm sure it will do justice...
p.s. Zombies kick ass

This is still one of my favourite books to date, one of the few times I was actually scared by something I read. This has the potential to be one of the best zombie movies of all time, if they do it justice.
The battle of Yonkers....oh man I can't f***in wait!
