LATEST NEWS
1.17.08
As I suspected, the last bit of news on Maggie Grace replacing Sarah Gellar was indeed false. In a recent interview with Radiofree, the actress revealed that she is indeed still playing Alice and is very enthusiastic about her role in the project. She didn't say much about the current status of the film, aside from it being a victim of "regime change in the studio," so it looks like the project is still on hold for the time being.
12.09.07
You can add this one to the recent pile of rumors, as word from a site called Pagesix reports that SMG is no longer starring in the film as Alice. Instead, she may be replaced by former Lost star Maggie Grace, whom was Marcus Nispel's supposed "second choice," according to the site.
11.30.07
You can treat this as a rumor for now, but HNR reports that pre-production will begin shortly in Langley, British Columbia, and Marcus Nispel and Sarah M. Gellar are still attached, with a tentative July '08 release date eyed. All of this information can be found in IMDB, which is likely where this news originated from, hence why it should simply be considered a rumor until something more concrete is revealed.
6.23.05
It is now confirmed that Sarah Michelle Gellar will be playing Alice, and TCM remake director Marcus Nispel is signed to go behind the camera.
3.09.04
Game-creator American McGee talked with IGN recently where he reveals that FOX has bought the films rights to the film and it's now in the pre-production stages.
9.10.03
Wes Craven talked with SciFi Wire briefly about Alice saying... "We never got a script that Dimension liked, so it's been pushed way back on the back burner."

I do agree that Gellar has reached some status of scream queen but her roles seem to be always that same type: a lost girl trying to find why things are happening to her. A far cry from Buffy. Though I would love to have seen a Buffy movie after the series ended. But times ticking away and Gellar is gonna get wrinkles. With HD coming up next year, I really don't want to be able to see how leathery an actor's face really is.
