Fango and New Zealand film site called Black Magic got their hands on some pics for the film, which can be seen below.
3/25/06
Fango spoke with producer r Philippa Campbell about the film, where more details were revealed, saying: "Black Sheep is a combo of comedy and horror—real scares with a twist of comedy. The film is good-hearted, but it also plays with real contemporary anxieties. [It has] a distinctive voice that comes at our New Zealand tradition of ‘cinema of unease’ in a new way."
On the effects: "We have animatronic sheep, and there is also a degree of prosthetic makeup involved in three transformation sequences designed by artists from Weta—notably Dave Elsey, a recent Academy Award nominee for his work on STAR WARS. This is a physical effects-driven film. We are capturing them on camera rather than creating the story’s realities digitally. There is an absolute minimum of CGI to enhance a couple of the key sequences."
DETAILS
- Mel Gibson’s Icon Film Distribution will put out the film theatricaly for Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
- You can view some concept art of the sheep here.
- Most of the effects will be puppetry and animatronic work.
- Effects supervisor Richard Taylor describes the film as a throwback of the days when he worked with Peter Jackson on crazy horror films like Dead Alive.
- The effects are being handled by Weta Workshop (King Kong, Lord of the Rings Trilogy).
- This is a New Zealand comedy/horror splatter flick.
- Produced by Philippa Campbell.
- Written and directed by first-timer Jonathan King.
