Originally announced as a remake, it seems that the project may actually be a sequel to the controversial first film. While at a Q&A writer/director Ruggero Deodato revealed that the script is completed and ready to film with an aimed September start. However, he added that he and the producer don't see eye-to-eye on a certain detail in the script, which he refuses to budge on and shooting will not actually begin until they finally come to an agreement. Thanks to Icons of Fright.

Added to the database.

- Filming is hoped to begin sometime in October in the Philippines and Ottawa, Canada.
- Although the first film was shot in a documentary-style, this sequel will be presented as more of a fictional tale, with only a few scenes that offer a similar aspect.
- It's said that when the first film premiered in 1980 Itallian director Ruggero Deodato was jailed for a brief period until he could prove the actors were unharmed. This was due to filming in a documentary style, which was uncommon at the time.
- Written by Christine Conradt.
- Original writer/director Ruggero Deodato returns.
- The original film has been banned in many countries due to its violence and gore.
- This is not a direct sequel.
- Relevant Entertainment owns the rights.
- When the project was originally announced, it was said to be a remake of the controverial cult film Cannibal Holocaust.

I know I'm being a little picky about this film cause it honestly doesn't sound that bad, but I just can't look past this! Why, oh freaking why would anyone with a god damn brain go to a foreign country to film cannibals in their natural habitat without thinking at least once that they might ask to have them for dinner? Seriously, where's the logic?! I mean, this might be a really good show but why would somone put themself in danger of being eaten halfway across the world just so they can get a documentary of cannibals who already have it in their minds and nature to eat intruders! I want to see this film just to watch if this plot hole is cleared up but I'm not so sure it can be, cause that's some pretty bad common sense on these "documentarians" parts! I don't know, might be good, I'll see!

if ANYONEis out there I have many original scripts mostly horror. They are very good, I have drawings and complete bios and backgrounds for all scripts, Many can be series that can be good and not boring like most sequels, films you want sequels for. Some with no sequels or remakes just hardcore fun that will make you grab whatever body part is being sliced or mutilated on screen. hallohorrorsstudios@myway ... is my email, i direct, write, edit, act, good with cinematography, lighting, makeup. Lets put and end to the crap being made as we speak. This film may be good since it is the original director.

There is alot of strife surrounding the remake craze which had hit horror movies in recent years, but I think the problem lies with filmmakers inability to capture satire as well as the inability to capitalize on potential. I agree that there have been some well done remakes, but there is a lack of original thinking in American cinema. Hopefully filmmakers will be able to introject some new and exciting elements to these films, because these remakes can either invoke greater appreciation for the originals, or discourage people from seeking the originals.

JJ, I will agree that remakes are ok once in awhile. I could give a couple of examples, but then Im sure somebody would jump down my throat about it. But why remake this movie? The original took several years just for it to be viewable (again?) in the states. And since it was so controversial when it came out, you know that's what everyone will be expecting. For the remake to be as contraversial or even more contraversial. I know thats what I expect. How about everyone else?

Complain all you want about remakes and such..no one is forcing you to watch it. So whine somewhere else. I prefer originals myself..but I still enjoy a remake every now and then.
