7.01.06
Writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson spoke to IGN about the film, revealing more details on the story and what more fans can expect from the game-to-film adaptation. Here's what he had to say:

"It's going to explain how the Belmont clan and Dracula first come into contact, so in a way, it's going to be a genesis story of the clash between the Belmonts and Dracula. It's going to span the ages as well, which is one of the fun things about the games. There are Castlevania games in the 1500s, there are Castlevania games in the Second World War, there are Castlevania in the future, and we're going to take the same kind of approach. It's going to be a very mythic story spanning hundreds of years, but the key characters are going to be Dracula and Simon Belmont. And the whip is going to be intact, although there'll be lots of other weaponry as well." He also added how he'll keep the goth and romatic look of the game and incorporate it into the movie.

- Originally scheduled to begin film in April '08 in South Africa, but is currently on hold until the WGA strike is over.
- The film will supposedly have a lot of references to the game to please the fans.
- It's said that the story will span hundreds of years and focus mostly on Dracula and Simon Belmont.
- The interiors of the castle will be constructed in Budapest.
- Budgeted at an estimated $50-million.
- Rogue Pictures hopes that this will be the start of a new horror franchise for them.
- Described as in the vein of action-horror films such as Blade and Underworld.
- Director Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Alien Vs. Predator) is also writing the script.
- Based on the classic Konami video game.

An origin story? They already covered it in the game. The good thing about the game series is that there are a lot of gaps in the years between each game. The series took liberties such as those...so why can't the movie? They should just do that. Like talk about the Baldwins or Morris family. Or better yet, just make another hero. But being a die hard fan of the Castlevania series that I am, I'll love it no matter what. SotN ftw!!!

Well I hope they at least mention Alucard in the movie, since without his help Trevor Belmont wouldn't have been able to succeed, Richter Belmont would have remained a slave of the Dark Priest Shaft, and Dracula would never have been destroyed. If this kicks off into a movie franchise, Alucard should get a movie centered around him. Dracula had better be a tall actor, I'm talking near 7ft, because Dracula was big in the games. I hope they do a good job portraying his monstrous form, they'll probably go overly CGI on it like most things though, seems like most companies have forgotten the value of animatronics. Animatronics are awesome. I also hope they have the Belmont hold the whip out and wiggle it around like you can do in the game, even for a joke, like trying to get the feeling back in his arm after a medusa head tries to stone it. Just some opinions, hope the director stays true to the games. If he does, it'll be a great movie.

i love dracula and they havent made a deacent movie with dracula since 1992. not much hope with this one considering it was a video game. but it might be interesting. i mean resident evil is /was an awsome franchise and alien vs preditor was in the verry least intertaining. but seriously who gets iffy when films deviate from a $hitty video game they where inspired from? i say *** the game and start over fresh and make me a GOOD dracula film!

I can't stand it...he always *** s them up.....he already *** ed up Resident Evil so so Badly.....he never sticks to the original plot which would made the fans a bit more happier.........GIVE IT TO GOERGE ROMERO......... *** W.S ANDERSON... *** IN RETIRE

Hope this movie is good... in my Opinion. i think resident evil the first movie was the best of all three. I think they should remake all the resident evil movies start from scratch.(Milla did a wonderful job but even she know they messed up the story) it can be done i mean they kinda did it with batman and hulk.

I pray to God that this wont be another *** ty game movie series like Residents Evil because the horror genre is sinking and we need good movie plots like this to help!

I just hope they'd start it with the setup of Lament of Innocence and if they could, maybe finish it with Symphony of the Night... or if they can't then atleast make it a good movie for cryin' out loud millions of gamers and fans are hoping that you people wouldn't destroy a classic like what happend with RE

I'm hoping that this movie will be a compelling as the games storyline. If this move goes as good as the first RE and AVP did (in my book they're good i don't care about anyone else's opinion) then this movie will be a success but, on the other hand, there are alot of die hard castlevania fans out there who wouldn't care about the quality just as long as they got to see a movie about the Belmont clan.
