LATEST NEWS

8/03/07
More than two years since the last report, Variety had a brief tidbit on the production and how Guillermo del Toro has joined as producer. There's currently not much more to report other than that. At least we know that it's still in the works, even if it is incredibly slow moving.

12/08/05
According to DC, original director Peter Medak is no longer directing.

3/17/05
According to a source in Dark Horizons, original director Peter Medak will be directing this remake as well. Apparently Meak is also against the use of CGI-effects for the ghost(s) as he feels having the impression a spirit is there is more effective than actually seeing it. He's currently awaiting the fourth script.

DETAILS

- Apparently three scripts have been turned down already.
- Focus Features will release this.
- Original producer Joel B. Michaels is also developing this film.
- Original director Peter Medak was once rumored to helm this remake.
- No relation to director Clint Eastwood's upcoming film starring Angelina Jolie.
- This is a remake of the 1980 Peter Medak horror film.

"The Changeling" is my favorite movie. When I heard there was going to be a remake I got a little excited and then a little nervousness came over me hoping that the movie makers don't take the story and beat it to death with too many special effects. The original movie was 99% perfect to me. It was in the simplicity where this movie scared me. And did anyone notice that all of the actors had great voices, I mean you could have taken the video out of the movie and it would have made a great radio show as well. I haven't been impressed with any remakes I've seen thus far recently, and I really don't want to be dissapointed when this one comes out. I thought about just not going to see it, but figured I would hope for the best. Aside from this as far as horror movies go in general, I'm really interested in seeing something new, I think a lot of the classics should be left alone, there was nothing wrong with them to begin with.

The original, after 25 + years, is still one of the scariest ghost movies ever filmed and one of George C. Scott's best. Had it not been released around the same time as'Poltergeist' it would've better known. A remake? Depending on who's in it and who's directing will make me THINK about seeing it. Right now, I have no interest. I had the dame feelings when they TRIED to remake 'The Wicker Man'.

this doesnt really need a remake.the original has spawnd an entire sub genre: guy or girl is being pesterd by a sperit. then the lead discovers the ghost was killd in his house somewhere.then he relieses the spiret. hmm sounds kinda like:stir of echoes, what lies benieth, dark water, the ring, and on and on. but sence remakes bother so many people i think you should remake every film ever made.then they would get used to the concept and shut up!

I agree. The original still scares the crap out of me, even after all the latest in scare technology. Look at the remake of The Haunting! Still makes me shudder.

This is a movie i don't think should be remade. I really liked the original. I bet i could come up with a good script though that would do the original justice.
