Seed of Chucky

Story centers on Chucky's son, Glen, who discovers that
a movie is being made about his folks' exploits. He travels to Hollywood
and brings Chucky and Tiffany back to life, and they immediately resume
their murderous waysmuch to peace-loving Glen's horror. While
Chucky struggles with his son's unwillingness to follow in the family
tradition, Tiffany finds out that the movie being made about them will
star
Jennifer Tilly (also playing herself), and the actress soon
becomes unwitting hostess to the demonic brood.

Billy Boyd, who provides the voice for Chucky's son, spoke with SciFi Wire recently about what fans can expect from the film, saying: "For the Chucky fans, all the Chucky stuff is there, and just because it's set in Hollywood, it has a whole other slant as well. There's a real lovely, funny take on how movies are made in Hollywood. It's a real weird story, and I think it will make people laugh, and I think it will make people shit themselves. That's what Chucky movies are supposed to do." You can read more here. Also the official site is now fully active with lots of goodies.

There's a cool brief interview with star Jennifer Tilly over at About.com
where she reveals some info on her character. You can check it here.

Star Jennifer Tilly talked with SciFi
Wire last week where she revealed some info on the film. Like what
was reported some time ago, it'll be a movie-within-a-movie and Tilly
plays herself and also the voice for the murderious doll Tiffany, saying...
"I have Tiffany say, 'I think Miss Tilly's career is very underrated.
' I saw her in this movie where she played an Eskimo ... and she looked
really cold. She's a really good actress.' And then there's another
where I say, 'I think with playing me in Bride of Chucky, she's finally
going to get that Oscar recognition that she deserves.'"
She even makes fun of her weight in the film, revealing info on a scene
where the dolls struggle to drag the unconscious bodies of Tilly and
her boyfriend... "they're huffing and puffing,
and Chucky goes, 'This is the worst part about being a doll, when you
have to move the body.' And I go, 'What the f--k are you complaining
about? I've got the fat one.'"
She goes on to explain how she
distinguishes the voices for the two characters... "I
made Tiffany have a little more of a dolly voice, like a baby doll voice,
and then I have Jennifer do more of a deeper, movie-star voice."

Former S-Club-7 member Hannah Spearritt has been added the cast. In
a statement it was quoted that "in the clever
and outrageous new scenario that Don has cooked up, Hannah will be the
lone beacon of sanity as Chucky and his familyand the equally
creepy Hollywood phoniesrun amok."
3/18/04
I've added hip-hop star "Redman" to the cast. Co-Presidents
of Focus Features were quoted saying... "Don
Mancini has come up with a very fresh take for the franchise, and this
Halloween, new viewers and longtime Chucky fans alike are in for bloody
good fun."

The official Billy Boyd site
is now reporting that the Lord of the Ring star's next role is that
of the voice of Chucky's son.

A release date has finally been set.

Got an email earlier from someone who's in talks with people behind
the production. Since nothing's official we'll have to treat it as a
rumor until proven otherwise. He told me that the "New Nightmare"
feel to the film that it was described to be like is due to the fact
that the doll Tiffany goes through a "facelift" to look like
actress Jennifer Tilly, because she's apparently obsessed with her,
so fact meets fiction in a way. They are currently still doing rewrites
on the script and filming is supposedly set to start March 15th in Romania.

Writer/director Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner talked with
Fango recently, where they revealed some interesting info on the film
and how cult-film legend John Waters will play an ill-fated papparazzo.
Mancini was quoted saying...
"John has been a Chucky fan for a long time," Kirschner
then added, "And I wrote the part specifically for him,
and we made sure that he dies the most gruesome death."
Mancini then goes on to say ... "A lot of
SEED is a takeoff on Brian De Palmas early movies and I thought
it would be a perfect touch to have his composer do the music for our
film as well."
Kirschner is looking forward to
seeing Mancini back behind the cameras, saying... "Don
deserves a lot of credit for how good Bride of Chucky turned out, and
Im very confident hes going to do a great job as director."

Someone sent in some info about the film over to CC
thanks to Shivers magazine, where director Don Mancini talks about the
movie. The film will apparently be shot in Romania, using the same soundstages
recently used by the production of Cold Mountain. Jennifer Tilly is
signed onto the project, but Brad Douriff hasn't yet. Though since he
has been able to sign onto the other 4 Child's Play flicks, it's safe
to say he'll most likely be returning to this one. Its also been said
that Mancini sees the film in a "Wes Craven's New Nightmare vein,"
though that comment brings up many questions on the film.

After years of talk and rumors about the film, it's not going to
happen. Director Don Mancini recently talked with Fango,
where he revealed that the film was going to happen for Focus Features.
He goes on to tell Fango...
"We are finally
moving forward. Thanks to Freddy Vs. Jason, horror is hot again. David
Linde, who runs Focus Features, released Bride of Chucky internationally,
and the film did very well there. So he decided to make SEED. We are
currently negotiating with [voice actor] Brad Dourif and [FX chief]
Kevin Yagher to return, plus little person Debbie Carrington, who I
loved in Total Recall. Of course, we want Jennifer Tilly back too, who
will do the voice of Tiffany and play herself in the new movie, in a
satirical vein à la Wes Craven's New Nightmare."
He then reveals a little bit on the story...
"The major focus is the family of dolls.
Bride of Chucky was a takeoff on the road pictures. Seed of Chucky is
a twist on family dramas like Ordinary People and Kramer vs Kramer.
The focus this time is on the family, with the point of contention being
a gender-confused offspring."
He also reveals that he wants to follow
in the footsteps of Bride director Ronny Yu and Cinematographer Peter
Pau, saying... "Ronny and Peter set the bar
so high, but thats the direction I want to go in. I want to live
up to that very stylized look of Bride of Chucky. Thats my intention.
I want those stylish Brian De Palma visuals, which are even more perfect
for Seed of Chucky because it is set in glamorous Hollywood."

Its been said recently that director Don Mancini the project is now
in preparation and it's just a matter of time before the film happens.
6/24/03
So far nothing has changed except for
word that it might get made and put out from New Line, but that turned
out to just be a whack rumor.
DETAILS
- Hannah
Spearritt plays, Joan, a
young woman trying to break into the movie business by working as a
personal assistant to actress Jennifer Tilly (playing herself). But
for Joan, Hollywood becomes more cutthroat than usual when Tilly gets
involved in a movie about the murderous exploits of living dolls Chucky
and Tiffany, and the real things come to call.
- Produced by David Kirschner and Corey Sienega, and executive-produced
by Guy Louthan.
- Redman will play a rapper-turned-director.
- John Waters plays a sleazy tabloid paparazzo.
- Pino Donaggio (Carrie) will compose the score.
- The cinematographer is Vernon Layton (I Still Know What You Did Last
Summer).
- Don has been quoted saying that he will endeavor to follow in the
footsteps of Bride director Ronny Yu and cinematographer Peter Pau.
- Don Mancini will make his directorial debut on this film after doing
2nd unit work on the previous movies (including Bride's climactic birth
scene, appropriately enough).
- The story is set in Hollywood and London, because it's cheaper, so
the production will be recreating Tinseltown overseas, but a few shots
may be lensed in LA as well.
- The film will be taking over the second largest soundstage in Romania
- Filming will begin in
Romania in March.
- Don Mancini will write and direct the film.
- There was a rumor a while back that if Freddy Vs. Jason did well at
the box office that New Line would get the rights to the film and put
it out, but that was obviously proven false.
