Daybreakers
1

The film is set 10 to 15 years in the future, where the world has been taken over by vampires whom have all accepted their lives and have returned to their everyday jobs and suburban homes. The story focuses on two vampire brothers -- one embracing the vampire life and is part of some military organization to trap and capture the last remaining humans for food, while the other is seeking to become human again.

The Spierig bros spoke with the people at SciFi about the project that'll begin shooting sometime next year. The duo have apparently completed their second draft, and will do a slight polish before casting. They were quoted saying how this is not your ordinary vampire flick, and that it'll take more of a dramatic approach to the story. You can read more here.

7.04.05
The Spierig bros spoke with Moviehole in a recent interview about their current and upcoming project. Here's a snipit of the duo talking about Daybreakers:

When asked whether the vamps would be moving about only in the night the bros were quoted saying: "They are doing this at night but they have also modified their lives so they can function also in the daytime. Like they have modified their houses so they can block out their windows, they have built walkways so they can walk around during the day, they have modified their cars so they can drive during the day. But the problem is what has started to happen is this new world what’s started to happens is they are running out of their food supply, which is human blood. There is very few human beings left in the world and vampires are starting to starve. So the film is essentially about 2 brothers strangely enough. They go on 2 completely different paths…"

3.28.05
According to Now Playing Magazine, who spoke with the Spierig bros, the duo just turned into the second draft to Lion's Gate and are awaiting feedback. The article also posted a brief story description, here's what was posted: "[The vampires] have tried to continue their lives as normal people. Human beings are on the brink of extinction [and] it's just a matter of time before the entire human population is wiped out. Vampires will suffer an eternity of starvation and madness if they can't find an alternative to human blood, [but] one man discovers a solution that will save the vampire race – they must become human again."

The guys at CC spoke with the writer/directors for the film recently about the status and various other details. Here are some bits from the article: "... this is more of an old-fashioned hero story. There will still be plenty of cool action, lots of blood, but tonally it’s very different to any of the recent vampire films." and "[We're] big fans of vampire movies and are trying to be as faithful to the mythology as possible, but at the same time offer something you’ve never seen before in this genre. Our goal with Daybreakers is to take what people know and expect from this type of movie and twist it, hopefully offering something new and exciting." Read more here.
