Day of the Dead 2: Contagium

Sometime in 1968 a strange viral outbreak is contained within the walls of a military hospital in Pennsylvania: all those exposed are destroyed and burned to the ground. A wall of silence befalls the incidence, and soon enough only a vague myth remains. The hospital becomes a civilian mental treatment center.

Set in a mental hospital in Pennsylvania, five patients about to be released uncover a secret buried within the compound and unleash a virus (contagium) designed to force Humanity to evolve into powerful creatures capable of astounding feats…and incredible cruelty. In order for this new Human to survive it needs to feed on human flesh: but a bite from these creatures creates a new state of existence, the Creature’s subordinate, the Living Dead. It’s up to our terrified heroes to choose to accept this fate or to fight it, even if it means their own destruction.

A lot of stuff has been goin' on with this flick as of late. DVD Empire posted what's supposed to be the DVD artwork for the film, but to me it looks more like a screen-grab from the trailer with the logo thrown on it. I emailed the guys at Taurus Entertainment (distributor) and hopefully I'll get a reply on whether it's real or not. On that note, I've stumbled onto the Taurus site, which has the trailer and behind-the-scenes clip that were posted on the old sites (that are down now). They are in a bad-quality flash format however. Also it seems like the Contagium sub-title is still around. Lastly you can read an article from a source that has supposedly already seen the film and talks all kinds of bad here.

7/12/05
The film will be getting a DVD release in October and has dropped the "Contagium" subtitle.

A reader emailed Geoffrey Mark (visual effects supervisor) about the status of the film and he replied with the following: "As far as I know, the production company is working night & day to get this film out. I don’t know if it’ll be theatrical or direct-to-DVD, but I do know the computer effects rock! If you’re talking about the original Day, yeah, the effects kick butt. Way better. They compare to the remake Day also, some are leagues better. That was one of the films I was told to watch – I had to beat that. Patience, my friend. Your wait will be worthwhile." Thanks to "steve-o".

Although the official site is down for unknown reasons, you can check the production site, which features pics and footage here.

12/02/04
Don't know what's up with the site for this movie, but this is the second time that it went down. Anyway, IMDB posted a link of the entire cast for the film, which can be found to your left. Thanks to "Jerry".

8/02/04
The website has been found, for some reason they changed the address, but the page itself is the same as the previous one.

7/30/04
The official site has been down for a while; who knows what happened to it.

6/20/04
The web site is more active now with pics and a teaser trailer you can check.

5/12/04
Some new pics and story details have popped up on the official site. You can check the new pics here. The following has also been quoted from the site: "Day of the Dead: Contagium is homage to the Dead trilogy, it hints at a possible origin to the Zombie phenomena in a manner that incorporates all known lore. It also covers some of the lesser known aspects of the original transformation and it imagines the last moments before the End of Humanity."

5/11/04
You can check a promo teaser for the film here, which was made some time ago to help get funding during the AFM Expo. Although no official plot has been issued, CC got a brief synopsis from a scooper some time ago. Here's what was said: "...the movie starts out as a prequel set in 1968 at a military hospital. An "alien space virus" infects a man who ends up biting and attacking the doctors and nurses at the hospital after being set on fire. The "virus" breaks out and a bunch of army soldiers come to the hospital to shoot everyone in the head and contain the virus. Flash forward to the present and a group of people at a ravine find a test tube with the virus in it and all hell breaks loose. The lead female character is pregnant and has an alien baby at the end of the movie."
