One Missed Call

Beth Raymond is traumatized when she witnesses the gruesome deaths of two friends just days apart. Even more disturbing, she knows that both of them had received chilling cell phone messages—actual recordings of their own horrifying last moments. Impossibly, the calls were received days before they died, but each death occurred precisely when and how the messages foretold. The police think Beth is delusional—except for Detective Jack Andrews whose own sister was killed in a freak accident that bears a strange similarity to the deaths of Beth's friends. Together, Jack and Beth work feverishly to unravel the mystery behind the ominous calls.

Comedian-turned-actress Margaret Cho spoke to SciFi Wire recently, where she revealed details on the film and her role as a policewoman. Here's what she had to say: "It's in the vein of The Grudge. It's a really quiet, really sort of scary, very thoughtful and intelligent horror film, which is kind of what's happening a lot in horror nowadays. I play a very cynical policewoman who doesn't believe anybody is getting voice mails from ghosts. People hear themselves dying, and they have a couple of days to save themselves, to stop it from happening for real. They're getting voice mails from their ghostly selves. I've seen the original film, and it's terrifying. It's really creepy, and I think they’ve done a great job with this one. In J-horror a lot of things are very mysterious, and this one sort of illuminates the story a little more, but it's still very scary."

The film is definitely on the fast-track with filming already startted in Atlanta, and with an August 24th 2007 release set. Also, news broke that Ed Harris and Gabriel Byrne have joined the cast. It's rare to see such a cast of familiar veteran actors taking part in a horror remake of all things. Normally studios aim for the "young teen" audience and attempt to fill the cast with young iconic actors and actresses. Since this doesn't appear to be the case maybe it means we'll actually see a quality remake for a change.

7.29.06
A couple names have been added to the cast. Ed Burns will play a detective while Shannyn Sossamon is the lead female college student. Filming begins shortly in Atlanta.

4.27.06
A year after the announcement, it looks like the project is finally moving forward. French filmmaker Eric Valette is set to direct, with filming reported to begin this Summer.
