Pan's Labyrinth


Set during the fascist regime in 1944 rural Spain, the film centers on Ofelia, a lonely and dreamy child living with her mother and adoptive father; a military officer tasked with ridding the area of rebels. In her loneliness, Ofelia creates a world filled with fantastical creatures and secret destinies. With post-war repression at its height, Ofelia must come to terms with her world through a fable of her own creation.

Variety reports that the film will be getting an August release as opposed to the October date posted on the official site.

Scetch artist William Stout (whose worked with Hollywood and comics for sometime) had an interview recently where he talked about his involvement in the project. In it he was quoted saying how Rural Basque architecture played a big role in the exterior designs and the rest of the creature designs were left to him after viewing director Guillermo's initial sketches. He was quoted with the follow: "I wanted an ancient, timeless look for the creatures; scary yet interesting at the same time." You can read the full interview here.

Director Guillermo del Toro spoke to Fango where he was quoted saying... "PAN’S LABYRINTH will serve as a counterpart to THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE. It’s a full-on fairy tale gone wrong. My script is very much in the mold of CRONOS and DEVIL’S BACKBONE, and will be done without any commercial aspirations. It’s going to be very scary, set against the fascist regime of Spain."

DETAILS

- The released was originally set for August 25th, then moved to September 29th, and finally settled on December 29th.
- Casting is underway in LA.
- Filming is set to begin in December in Argentina.
