Phantasm 5

It's said that the plot will continue with the Tall Man still traveling from town to town turning the dead into his own army and using his deadly spheres against anyone who opposes him. Mike, who is developing psychic powers, and his brother try to stop him.

CURRENT STATUS

4/07/07
Don Coscarelli has recently said the following about the project: "the epic Phantasm project, which was originally called Phantasm 1999 and had a script by Roger Avary, will definitely not be made. The screenplay was hyper violent, epic in scope, had a terrific role for Bruce Campbell in it, but we just couldn’t find a studio exec who was visionary enough to see the potential."

He then added... "But there’s still life in the old franchise, though! The fans and the cast members are always asking me when the next one’s going to be as well, so we rolled around ideas and finally we have a screenplay written. It’s really quite interesting in that it answers a lot of questions; now it’s just a question of finding the opportunity to get this thing going." Thanks to DC.

3/06/06

Haven't heard anything new. It's probably in a limbo stage.

LATEST NEWS

3/17/05
Dread Central got some unofficial details on the project. They are reporting that the film will re-establish the premise and characters from the previous films. They reveal other details, but as of right now it's hard to say what will really happen or not. Read more here.

3/12/05
After years of speculation, it looks like a sequel is officially moving forward. According to the Hollywood Reporter, New Line is in the final talking stages with original writer/director Don Coscarelli to bring forth the much-talked about sequel. Apparently Coscarelli would serve only as producer, which means someone new will have to go behind the cameras. If the film does well it's said that it would be part of a new trilogy for the series. Although no cast is signed, it's pretty much a guarantee that we'll see Reggie and Angus return. You can read talk from Don Coscarelli about previous talk on a supposed remake and further stuff on the upcoming sequel here.

7/26/04
I got some info from a tipster that attended the San Diego Comic Con recently, where he supposedly spoke with star Reggie Banister in which he revealed that the script for the film by Roger Avary is over with and director Don Coscarelli wrote the script himself and plan for the production to start rolling later this year. Obviously nothing is official, so this can only be treated as a rumor for the time being. Thanks to "Chad".

5/11/04

Although this is nothing new, I figured I'd post it anyway: director Don Coscarelli talked with Fango recently, where he briefly mentioned how he's still interested in doing this film, and that Reggie Bannister and Angus Scrimm are "still in great shape and raring to go".

4/20/04
A bit of old news here, but I thought I'd post it since people are still wondering about this film. Apparently posted at the Phantasm's End message board was this little message stating that Roger Avary's script for the film was declined due to the high budget needed. So I guess that leaves the plot a mystery now, since there's no script. On the brighter side, director and creator Don Coscarelli will write the script (or has already since the news is a bit old). Also you can check an interview at Arrow in the Head with Justin Zaharczuk, where there's brief talk on this last installment in the Phantasm series. Thanks to a UHM regular for the heads up.

DETAILS

- Supposedly this sequel any others that come out will be "faithful" to the original films.
- It's said that if this film does well that a new Episode 1-type trilogy would be developed about Mike's "coming of age".
- The project is said to be influenced by a new screenplay by original creator Don Coscarelli and Stephen Romano.
- The quoted plot from Roger Avary's axed script: "
The year is 2012 and there are only three U.S. states left. Between New York and California is the wasteland known as the Plague Zone. Unfortunately, the evil Tall Man controls that area. Since many people are dead, the Tall Man is able to make thousands of dwarf slaves for his planet daily in the Mormon Mausoleum. Besides him, the other residents are "baggers," human-like creatures that are infected by the Tall Man's blood, the dwarves, and, of course, the silver spheres, all trying to break out of the barrier that contains them and into the real world. A group of hi-tech troops are sent in to destroy the red dimension where the Tall Man gets his power, Reggie follows so he can f hi-tech troops are sent in to destroy the red dimension where the Tall Man gets his power, Reggie follows so he can find Mike after a series of nightmares he had. Will they be able to finally destroy the Tall Man for good."
- When the project was originally reported it bore the title Phantam's End.
- Originally though to be the last edition to the Phantasm series.

I have to agree with everyone that has written here...dont leave us hanging! I have followed the story of the Tall man all my life ( im only 25) and like all horror sagas, there must be a ending that will be remembered for the rest of our lives. At least remake the movies like they have done with Friday the 13 movies and many more....theres so many people my age that dont even know that phantasm even exists!

They cannot leave us hanging like that. If their really not going to make Phantasm 5 the execs of these studio's are stupid. If its to violent for them they are really retarded. Its a horror film for Christ's sakes. And no complained about the violence in films like Saving Private Ryan or Hostel. Or so many other films. Another Hollywood disappointment. It just goes to show they lack any creativity whatg so ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's about Time!
My family and I had the honor meeting Mr. Bannister 5 years ago just before Halloween. I can't believe it's been that long.
Anyway .....Reggie and his wonderful wife had put on a spook house for the benefit of the local school kids and we really injoyed it.
We drove up from San Diego to Crestline. Phantasm 5 has been long awaited as my son and I really love all the moves and have quite a collection. Come on Rege get em on the Ball.
With Phantasmic thanks Tom

According to IMDb.com, Phantasm 5 is in production awaiting the end of the WGA strike, which ended about 2 months ago, So now we play the waiting game. If it does happen, at least it's not another damn remake. One thing that I've always loved about the Phantasm series is they didn't churn out one sequel after another, 4 total movies in 30 years defintiely prevents the burnout effect!

WTF - there are so many crappy low budget-high budget horror films out there that SUCK and are not worth watching or mentioning. SO WHY IN THE HELL will all these move execs not GIVE PHANTASM'S END the funding. This movie needs to be MADE WITH A QUICKNESS. 1. BECAUSE PHANTASM is the best damn horror movie franchise alive. 2. Because Phantasm: Oblivion left all of us wanting MORE MORE MORE. 3. Angus Scrimm (THE TALL MAN) need I say more. All of us PHANS need to UNITE and write to as many Movie/production companies/etc to let them know this movie will be a hit and that the TALL MAN is wanting to come back.

It is really sad that Phantasm won't get the big climax that it solely deserves. This was one of my favorites series in the horror genre and it is heartbreaking that this film will never be made. Hopefully SOMEONE out there will dust it off and bring back the Tall Man for one last battle. Don't give up Coscerelli!
