Also, as if remaking the film wasn't bad enough, the word now is that they're aiming for a PG-13 rating. It would explain why they're using so many young faces as the leads. 4.05.07 The cast list has been updated. 2.23.07 Actress Brittany Snow will star in the film with television director Nelson McCormick set to direct. 12.16.06 Almost two years since the last update and another since the first anouncement, it seems that things are finally in motion for this project. In fact, Sony has even given it a February '08 release date. There's currently no word if the previous details or reports on the project (posted below) are still valid since so much time has passed, but hopefully we'll find out soon. 1.31.05 Scripter Stephen Susco briefly spoke with Dread Central about the status of the film, where he revelead that the script has been finished and recently turned in to Columbia. He also revelead that the film will be more supernatural and "scarier" than the original. 10.06.04 Stephen Susco has signed on board to script the remake. DETAILS - Originally set to have a February 1, 2008 theatrical release. - Said to be more psychological and will have no blood, guts, or gore in general. - Stephen Susco also wrote a number of other remakes including The Grudge, Red, and Evil Words. - Sony's puttin' this film out. - Newmarket Films is co-producing. - Supposedly the film will be so different from the original storyline that it's questionionable why it would even contain the title or even be a remake. - Brad Keene and Chris Skinner, the writers of the upcoming film Gravedancers, are also writing this film. - The original film was followed by three sequels. - A remake of the 1980 horror slasher. They should call it "A Prom Night to Remember" since it's a sequel of some sort "whatever" but I vow myself to never watch another remake and "I repeat REMAKE! In theaters.
