Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis

Julian, Zeke and their friends are a group of high school seniors with nothing much to do. They live the typical teen lifestyle until Julian's uncle brings something unnatural back to town. Uncle Charles works for the Mega Corporation Hybratech, conducting inhumane experiments on human test subjects with a mutated chemical compound called Trioxyn-5. This chemical re-animates the dead.

It all amounts to trouble when Zeke finds himself as one of the test subjects, and his not entirely capable friends attempt to rescue him. As the kids break into the facility they find and release more zombies than they can handle. The worst is in store for the kids when they discover that Uncle Charles' favorite test subjects turn out to be Julian's parents who have been mechanically mutated into uber zombies. The rescue mission has some deadly and often humorous consequences for the kids.

LATEST NEWS

10/03/05
Not sure why the official site doesn't mention anything about the film's premiering on the SciFi channel this October, but further proof can be found at the SciFi site (link on left).

9/27/05
You can check the new poster art above. Also the new "theatrical" trailer is up.

9/11/05
It seems like even the "official site" is out of the loop, as BD got word that the two sequels will be playing back-to-back on the SciFi Channel on October 15th.

7/21/05
This film will be getting a release after the sequel's October 7th limited theatrical release. No word as to why Freestyle Releasing is putting the sequel before this one, but it's likely the films will drop their number in their title because of it. Depending on Rave's box office, this flick may be released soon after the sequel's release.

7/04/05
According to Fango this and the sequel are getting distributed by indie company Freestyle Releasing. The official site is also reporting an October 7 theatrical release, although whether it's the release for both films is up for question. Freestyle Releasing also handled the theatrical release for Riding the Bullet, which only got a limited run to around 100 screens before it premiered on the USA channel and went direct-to-video shortly after. So whether this is getting a limited then direct-to-video release is also up for question.

5/07/05
The official site is reporting an October 7th theatrical release, which is surprising to me since I figured it'd get more of a direct-to-video release. What doesn't make sense is why it has only one release date for two movies. I fail to believe that they'd release both at the same time.

3/22/05
Writer William Butler had an interview recently, where he revealed various tidbits on both new ROTLD films. Here's some of what he said about Necropolis: "The zombies in Necropolis are more like the original RETURN zombies except for the fact that a few of them are a new strain - a hybrid of flesh-eater, man and weapon that many of which were created from cloned parts. The old fashioned brand that we know and loved still simply cannot be destroyed and the new strains have built in weak spots. I think that viewers are seeing the head hits in the trailer and just jumping to the conclusion that they are all being killed that way. Besides, who says if a Trioxyn 5 five zombie gets shot in the head that it isn't going to just get right back up. Everybody should just relax and enjoy the splatter! Use your BRAINS!!!!" You can read more here.

2/17/05
I've added a few new pics and a couple promotional trailers for the film. You can view more pics at the official site.

1/11/05
More scanned pics have appeared on BD, you can check'em on your right.

12/14/04
I've added a couple new pics from BD for the film that was apparently scanned from a French magazine.

11/24/04
Some posters have been found for both films, though, by the looks of them they could be fan-made. Either way, they seem to contain new pictures blended into it that I haven't seen before. Check above. They were found here. Thanks to "steve-o".

9/05/04
I've added a couple pics for the film. You can read a detailed article on this and its sequel over at the Fango site located here.

8/10/04
CNN posted an article on the movie currently filming in Chernobyl for two days. Apparently the scenes are for the opening of the movie, where a rogue ex-CIA agent is seen stealing the world's last five canisters of Trioxyn gas, the lifeblood of the living dead. Producer Anatoly Fradis was quoted saying: "Chernobyl is very spooky and serves our purpose -- we are shooting in all these abandoned towns and villages, with rusting equipment lying around everywhere." Thanks to "Kim".

8/03/04
I've added Elvin Dandel to the cast, who plays the character Zeke Bordon, which is Jana Kramer's boyfriend in the film. Apparently the film revolves around the group of teens attempting to rescue him.

7/14/04
I've added a few more names to the cast.

6/18/04
Aimee-Lynn Chadwick is currently in Romania filming the back-to-back films. She'll be playing Becky, a nerdy character that's eventually turned into a zombie. Thanks to "Amsterdam ".

6/09/04
Peter Coyote has so far been the only person cast in the back-to-back sequels. Thanks to "Amsterdam".

5/20/04
The Hollywood Reported confirmed that director Ellory Elkayam is set to direct, starting June 7th in Romania.

4/05/04
Not sure how accurate this is, but Dark Horizons reported that Eight Legged Freaks director Ellory Elkayem is set to do this film this June in Romania.
