Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

On one last road trip before they're sent to serve in Vietnam, two friends and their girlfriends get into an accident that calls their local sheriff to the scene. Thus begins a terrifying experience where the teens are taken to a secluded house of horrors, where a young, would-be killer is being nurtured.

I've added a number of new pics below, and you can check a couple some new clips for the film here and here .

9/01/06
The strange new poster can be seen above.

7/09/06
The release date has been moved a couple days.

6/10/06
The official site is up, where you can view some new pics. Also, the poster can be seen above and the trailer is finally out, but for one reason or another, it's only available for download between 10 PM and 4 AM.

Fango did a report on the film, where they spoke briefly to some the stars of the film. Actor Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface) had some interesting things to say about it: "This will be the definitive Chainsaw movie. It answers all the whys. People are going to be really satisfied by this movie, really blown away. In my estimation, Leatherface is like a beaten dog—he was ostracized and ridiculed, and treated harshly by his peers. The psychological damage they inflicted was immense…there’s no chance for him. One day, he gets his release, and his revenge. And when you see the chronicle of events that are the impetus for what happens, he becomes strangely sympathetic."

MTV (much like other sites except for UHM, despite being a little over an hour away from filming) was on the set, and got their hands on exclusive photos, which can be seen below. You can expect the movie to have more gore than the previous film. Also, it looks like the old Origin title has made its return.

A number of on-set photos can be found here. Thanks to "Toby".

I've added a couple new names to the cast. Filming has begun recently in Austin TX, and now there's word that "The Begining" has been removed from the title.

9/26/05
It has been confirmed that Andrew Bryniarski will reprise his role as Leatherface. Also Taylor Handley from The O.C. series has been cast as one of the leads who crosses paths with the infamous chainsaw wielder.

8/10/05
An October 6th theatrical release is set. Also the sub-title has been changed from "The Origin" to the bland "The Beginning".

7/12/05
According to Fango, filming is set to begin this September in Texas.

6/20/05
The movie is said to start filming in Austin in the upcoming weeks. Fango is now saying that Leatherface star Andrew Bryniarski won't be returning as Leatherface for the prequel for one reason or the other. Also it's been reported that the official subtitle is "The Origin".

5/26/05
Darkness Falls director Jonathan Liebesman is set to direct this film.

2/21/05
In a recent interview with Coming Soon, producer Michael Bay revealed some details on the project, one of which is that you can expect the crazy sheriff played by R. Lee Ermy to return.

2/11/05
BD spoke with producer Brad Fuller about the status of the film, where he revealed that the draft is finished and they're hiring a new writer to expand the story elements and plans are to have it done within two months and begin shooting in the summer. Brad hopes to bring back the cast of the family from the remake, but that depends on their availability.

10/21/04
TCM producers spoke with Fango recently about the upcoming prequel. Here's some of what was said: "We thought that a lot of people who saw the movie always wondered why he uses a chainsaw. No one really explains it, he just does. We tried to explain a little bit in our version why he wears a mask, but here we’re really going to try to show you how the mask originated, and stuff like that."

He continued... "We’re not going back into his childhood. You’re not going to see him at the prom—you’d be surprised at some of the ideas we heard. This is still a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie; it’s not going to be a family drama where you see how this kid grew up and all that. It still has to be what our last movie was, which was fun and scary and kind of a ride. We still want to do that."

9/19/04
Producer Brad Fuller talked with Zap2it recently, revealing some minor details on what to expect in the film, including where the story will lead. Here's what he said: "It won't have any of the young actors from the first (like Jessica Biel), this is a prequel. But there will be a group of teen and young adults in their 20s who make an unfortunate decision to end up in this town."

He then went on to say... "The old man had no legs, we hope to answer questions about that. We hope that you'd eventually be able to watch the two movies together and it will explain a lot of questions that were unanswered."

So looks like we'll be getting more into the past of the family. Currently Andrew Bryniarski (leatherface in '03 remake) isn't signed on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he reprised his role.

7/27/04

Leatherface star Andrew Bryniarski spoke with MTV a little on the prequel, where he revealed production to start somewhere in 2005. He also goes on to talk about how they're still going through story ideas and how far back they should go. You can read about it and other projects Andrew is working on here.
