Well it looks like the film is really going to happen, it's just a matter of when. According to an interview with producer Brad Fuller over at IGN, he reveals that they're not remaking Hitchcock's film, but adaptating their own version from the original short story that Hitchcock based his film on. Here's what he had to say:

"That movie stands on its own and it is a wonderful piece of filmmaking. It's a very difficult thing to say, 'We're remaking a Hitchcock film.' What was interesting to us was that the short story [by Daphne Du Maurier] the Hitchcock film was based on was chock full of stuff that Hitchcock didn't use in his film. And so we went to those things and that's the basis of our film. It's the same title because it's based on the same short story but we don't have characters like what they have. The concept of birds, certainly, that's the core of the movie but the situations and the plot come from the short story not from the Hitchcock film." So in other words they're using the same title as a marketing ploy to gain interest from fans of the original. Fuller also briefly goes over the fact that the film will revolve around a family that has been living in the town as opposed to the original that followed a young woman who arrived in the town at the same time of the time attacks.

In an interview with producer Michael Bay, it was revealed that this project may not even see the light of day. He was quoted saying how the project is so far in the distance that it may not even happen.

Shh! Don't say U.B.'s name, he'll hear you through the internet! Maybe Mr. Bay will surprise us all and go subtle with this... or not. Is anyone else mortified that it is being written by the same people who wrote Boogeyman?

NO FUCKING WAY! There is no way that Michael "all-action-no-plot-but-tons-o-explosion" ; Bay can be involve with a classic as The Birds?! It's not like the shit load of craptastic remakes is not slowing down any times soon. But Bay?!?! Out of so many TALENTED people in Hollywood to get to remake this classic--which Hollywood should just STOP fucking with. Bay is the VERY VERY last person to EVEN be considered to handle this project. Hell, might as well get Uwe Boll to write/direct/produce/shit on this film!

I'd like to see how this works out...this needs to be redone and maybe it might be better. The original Hitchcock film was good but a new director could really bring this project to life. Even though Micheal Bay is up there with Rob Zombie as one of the worst remake directors of all time.

Ugh...Michael Bay + "The Birds"? Here's a list of what we'll probably see:
- At least 1 tit shot.
- Loads of unessecary gore.
- Music.
- A "lovable" minority character.
- CGI birds attacks in super slow-motion.
- A "flippin the bird" joke.
- Loads of one-liners.
- A hot young female who is the USA's best bird specialist.
- An "epic" battle between birds and helicoptors.
- An average scene transistion time of about 3 seconds.
It's probably going to be one of the most unessecary remakes since 1998's "Psycho".
