LATEST NEWS

11/29/06
Well I'm not quite sure what happened to this being a mini-series and sequel to Carpenter's version, but recent news indicates that this will now be a remake of the 1981 film. More details can be found on the bottom.

10/26/04
It's finally revealed that this will be a sequel rather than a remake. Producer Frank Darabont spoke with a site called Suicide Girls on the project. Here's what was revealed: "It’s not a remake as much as it is a miniseries sequel to the great John Carpenter movie. It got reported in the trades as a remake but I would not want to remake a movie as good as John Carpenter’s. But to do a loving sequel as a miniseries really does appeal to me. Then you’re not screwing up somebody’s great movie. " Frank also went on to say how he hopes to pick up where the first left off and the screenplay should be done soon.

DETAILS

- This will be released theatrically.
- Described as a "a companion piece" to the Carpenter film.
- Original producer David Foster will executive produce.
- Scripted by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore.
- Strike Entertainment and Universal Pictures are behind this.
- This is a remake of John Carpenter's 1982 film, which was a remake of the 1951 film.
- When this project was announced a couple years ago it was thought to be a remake, but was later revealed to be a sequel that would air as a two-part four-hour mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Well Big O!, by companion piece they mean that they're are going to do sort of what John Carpenter did. The original, original The Thing was about alien assault on an artic base. And so at the beginning of John Carpenter's The Thing the new team visits the same artic base from the original where they find the sled dog that has been infected by the aliens. And so what they are going to do since John Carpenter's The Thing ended in a cliffhanger, they are going to recount the last few minutes of the John Carpenter remake and go on to show what happens to the last two survivors. So it is more of a sequel for it is sprung off from the John Carpenter remake, yet with the begginning rehashing what happened when the artic base blew up and the two survivors weren't sure if they really killed the alien or if it got to one of them it's more of a "companion piece".
So it's not going to be a remake, but it is going to take the cliffhanger away from John Carpenters ending so that sucks majorly cause that ending was so totally for that movie! And I view it as another way to keep our unsuspecting populace from thinking or imagining for themselves what happens next and so gives the film what the audience wants to know mainly about. God!!! We're turning into a society just like Ray Bradbury's Farhenheit 451!!! It's awful!!! Next, they'll outlaw books!!!

First off, I have to agree with Reaper and Ash, Halloween sucked major ass. And if you saw the original HALLOWEEN I believe the original THE THING was showing on the tv before Michael began his assault on Jamie Lee Curtius. And as pointed out before by Ash, Carpenter's THE THING was a remake of the original THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE(think it was called.) So, why would you do a remake of a remake? Carpenter's version was really good. I really don't see how the hell you can do any better. THE THING is one of Carpenter's classic horror movies and I really don't see the need for "remaking" this movie. A sequal would be more approperiate rather than a fucking remake. Hollywood should just stop with the fucking rehashing. Its just sad and pathetic as to how our classic horror movies are getting pissed on. But what does "a companion piece" to Carpenter's film mean? Hell, just make it a fucking sequal! I can't stand all these "new terms" for the same old shit.

Wow what a violent bunch we have here......well i love the thing and cant wait for this to hit cause i love any kind of horror. There are crappy ones but you need to give most a look at,and Halloween was ok. It was more or less like a soft-core porn with some guy in a mask ruining all the sex scenes. But hey just be nice and wait to see if the movies going to be good instead of running your mouth...but thats just what i say.But yeah just cant wait.....Peace

ok then...ok then, i don't know what your playing at. First of all, people posting on this site have absolutely NO control over what Hollywood is doing, so don't blame us for having our own opinions.
Also, if you think for one moment that they can make this film any better then you are seriously fucked up. There is no way you can improve on this film for this is a remake of a remake...it just won't work.
Oh and one more thing, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU SAY ROB ZOMBIES SERIOUSLY DILLUTED AND FUCKED UP REMAKE WAS BETTER THAN JOHN CARPENTERS ORIGINAL.
ZOMBIE HAS NO TALENT FOR DIRECTING, SCRIPTING, OR ANYTHING. HE HAS NO ARTISTIC VIEWS AT ALL. HE JUST GOES FOR THE TOTAL BRUTALITY OF THE THING, WHICH MAKES HIM NO BETTER THAN JUST ANOTHER FUCKED UP TEN YEAR OLD BOY I. E. LITTLE MIKEY.....SO DON'T SPEW SHIT ABOUT HALLOWEEN...IT SUCKED BALLS.

Ok then if you guys are tired of sequels then come up with some new ideas...i dont mind seeing things remake if they are better i.e. Halloween. If its going to be better then by all means remake it! Until the rest of you contribute to the creation of new ideas.....shut it
