LATEST NEWS

4.19.08
Looks like Fango got the wrong information in the previous report, as Jeffrey Reddick got a hold of them to clarify that although he did speak with producers on some ideas for a sequel, he isn't currently scripting the project. It's not clear whether Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson are still attached.

4.10.08
Director/FX artist Dean Jones spoke with Fango recently, where he revealed that Jeffrey Reddick (Final Destination, Day of the Dead '07) is now scripting, replacing Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson. Him and Jones are collaborating on the script, with hopes to bring back Angela Bettis' character, leaving the story to continue immediately after the first, with more deaths, and backstory on the killer.

DETAILS

- FX artist Dean Jones' directorial debut.
- Expect more deaths and background info on the killer this time.
- No word yet on what kind of involvement remake director Tobe Hooper will have on the film.
- Original remake writers Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson were going to return at one point, but were eventually replaced by Jeffrey Reddick (Final Destination, Day of the Dead '07).
- You can read my review for the original here and the remake here.
- The sequel to The Toolbox Murders remake by Tobe Hooper.

Well, Tobe's probably not getting on board as he makes good movies and realizes that 99% of all sequels are made only as an attempt to generate money. I have yet to see him make a sequel to anything.
I didn't like the original. I actually got up and walked out of the theator when I went to watch it. It just wasn't that good. When I heard there was a remake I first decided to skip it. Then, accidently, I started watching it one night and was majorly impressed. I was like... Wow, what a cool idea with the hotel, the magic ritual design. And that thing with the spine and the bolt cuttes got me squirming.
Unfortunately, this sequel shall more than likely suck, as most sequels to non-blockbuster movies, especially below the radar horror movies, usually end up being.

david lynch populates his films with mysterious characters that have knowledge that the main character(s) do not have, much like the rance howard character here. turning on the switch resulting in the bulb shooting appears in much of lynch's work such as eraserhead and blue velvet (among his other works); the same thing happens when sheri moon zombie switches on the light here. not being able to tell what is and what is not reality happens in this film and in lynch's work. actors are invovled here and in lynch's mulholland drive and inland empire.

david lynch did a series called hotel room about a hotel with a strange past. strange happenings also transpire at the great northern on twin peaks. in blue velvet and on twin peaks there are long lingering shots of room numbers on doors. electricity is (perhaps) a method of teleportation on twin peaks and in fire walk with me. the symbols in tobe's toolbox recall the cave drawings on twin peaks.

i am glad that the screenwriting team from the remake is returning. i wish tobe would as well. the remake was like a nancy drew/hardy boys mystery with lots of gore. i really loved it. the tooth in the wall was right out of the tenent. there were lots of elements of david lynch films to be found as well. i hope toolbox 2 happens!

i do differ [[beto]]
i thought the first toolbox murders was sensational
and the carnage was a masterpiece although,
i thought it wasn't horrifying
but its great watching your friends scream, close they're eyes in terror, and or course watching you friends cry in they're sleep.
