R.I.P. Chas Balun (1948-2009)
UHM doesn't normally report on celebrity deaths, however I felt it important to mention the untimely passing of writer, artist, and overall horror aficionado, Chas Balun, who recently lost his battle with cancer. I had the pleasure of getting to know Chas, as he was the artist behind UHM's t-shirt designs and he told me of his health issues while he was working on the second design.
The last time I spoke to him things seemed to be looking more up, but I guess you can never tell with these types of things. I've included the art he did for UHM below. A third unused design by Chas is planned to be printed on a third UHM t-shirt design in the near future.

These are sad news indeed. Hadn't it been for him and his magazines, I would not be the horror fan I am today.
I think we all, including the horror industry, owe him more than he usually got credit for, even though he was a respected part of the horror society.
