Rob Zombie is now remaking THE BLOB

After remaking Halloween and delivering a sequel (which comes out in less than 12 hours) Rob is apparently now set to tackle yet another remake -- 1958's The Blob. Rob had this to say about the project:

"I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is, I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to. Even more than `Halloween,' where I had to deal with accepted iconic characters like Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. `The Blob’ is more concept than specific storyline with characters, so I can go nuts with it."

Rob has already begun scripting, with production hoped to begin next Spring. He will produce with Genre Company’s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten, and original `Blob' producer Jack H. Harris, and Judith Parker Harris of Worldwide Entertainment Corporation. You can expect a budget around the $20-$30-million dollar range.

The original film told the story of an object from space that crashes into a field and releases a red blob-like substance onto the land that absorbs and grows with anything it comes in contact with. However, don't expect a to see a giant Jello-substance rolling around the city in Rob's version...

"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing, that’s the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark."

A remake was made in 1988 by director Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King), which starred Kevin Dillon (Entourage) and Shawnee Smith (Saw series).

I'm very surprised that Zombie would do a blob remake. Seems like kind of a silly project, for him. He usually does films about psychos, with a creepy, brutal feel to them - that's what he aims for, anyway. At least twice he succeeded (in House of 1000 Corpses and the sequel).

As a budding screenwriter i would rather see him do an original story than a remake. I heard he was gonna do `The Lords Of Salem' -about witchcraft. I hope he still does - that one sounds better than the blob.

I don't want to prejudge. His blob remake may actually turn out good.

The Rob Zombie Method:
Step by Step.

1) Acquire familiar/ desperate/ affordable B-Movie actors.

2) Give generic ex-cheerleader/ hopeless DumbDumb wife big part.

3) Decide who gets beards or massive sideburns/ chops.

4) Listen to Tarantino motivational tape.

5) Do best Frank Zappa impression.

6) Write song based on wife's incoherrant rambling/ jibberish.

7) Spew hipster jargen at dumbfounded producers.

Cool Design/ "re-imagine" key characters basing them solely on current David Allen Coe song on ipod.

9) Sit in local trailer park for further inspiration.

10) Take horror back 40 years to the days of cheap exploitation schtick, rednecks and offensive, unintelligent shocks.
-(legitimate suspense and scares can easily be replaced by the words "cunt" or "fuck" and repetitive rape scenes)

11) Make Tarantino-esque film, negating all talent, intelligence or believable dialogue.

12) Have annoying wife giggle and shake ass.

13) Decide if the blob should have a beard too?

14) Bump Rush while backtracking to eliminate all fresh ideas, give other characters beards.

15) Collect pay and repeat

Ugh I have nothing again Zombie, but the man needs to stick to what he knows and that's music. I've watched everyone of his movies and always walk away thinking I just wasted 2hrs of my life I'll never get back. If he chooses to keep making movies him and M. Night Shamalan, need to both be slapped silly and told to STOP WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME!!!!!!!!!!! Stare

C'MON PEOPLE. GIVE ROB A BREAK. I THOUGHT HE DID A VERY GOOD JOB WITH THE HALLOWEEN MOVIES. SURE IT CANT COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL, BUT SO WHAT? WHAT CAN? QUIT COMPARING THEM. JUST WATCH AND ENJOY. YES, I DIDNT LIKE THAT HE SHOWED MICHAELS FACE, OR THAT HE MADE HIM OUT TO BE SOME FUCKED UP KID, BUT I'D RATHER HAVE SOME MICHAEL THAN NONE. DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOR ANOTHER FIFTY YEARS WITHOUT ANYTHING NEW AT ALL IN REGARDS TO OUR BELOVED HORROR CLASSICS? I DONT. AND WITH SO MANY MOVIES BEING MADE, ITS REALLY HARD TO COME UP WITH A TRULY ORIGINAL IDEA. I DONT HEAR ANYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT ALL THE VAMPIRE MOVIES, WHICH ARE ALL ESSENTIALLY RE-IMAGININGS OF NOSFERATU AND DRACULA. OH WELL. THE THING I LOVED MOST FROM H2 WAS HOW FEROCIOUS MICHAEL WAS. WHEN HE WAS STABBING PEOPLE, HOLY CRAP! I REALLY FELT ALL HIS RAGE AND BRUTALITY. AND THATS WHAT A GOOD MOVIE DOES; IT MADE ME FEEL.

I'm curious why Rob can't stick with making his OWN movies? HO1000C & TDR were great!! But then he goes and fucks up with Halloween and now that I wasted 10 bucks tonight giving him another chance with H2... I officially have lost faith in Mr. Zombie.

Give up on the remakes, be original. You can't compete with a classic like Halloween... but if he's going to remake the Blob he'll have a better chance. Until he decides to go back to his creepy self I won't be seeing any future Zombie remakes.

there is a difference between a remake and a reimagining.

I'm not saying that the Blob will land in a trailer park. That's not Rob's style. My guess is as follows: It will land in the poor part of of some town that's only different from a trailer park in that the houses are cemented to the ground.

Are you fucking kidding me??? I have seen 1958's Blob, and the remake in the 80's(which was fucking spectacular compared to the original). Rob is becoming a douche bag...does he not know that there is a 80's remake of the Blob??? I'm tired of fucking remakes! Especially remakes of remakes -_-.

I agree, and somehow, rednecks will find their way into this re-remake, along with some location in the south that is slightly deserted looking, and somehow the blob will only have one member of his family who didn't beat on him as a child. There will also be a family of blobs who will be somehow dysfunctional. I just don't think this needs a remake, especially from Zombie.

yeah you scholars make a good point. rob must have overlooked the cheesy 80's sequel...for fuck sake i hope he did! and obviously it will take place in some impoverished southern town. rednecks in the south (who also missed the horribly terrible sequel in the 80s) should flock to it without a doubt. Right....

Let me see if I'm following you correctly...so Zombie is now the sell-out chump of remakes? And, everything he touches turns to shit? So, why is all his "shit" making money and getting increased box office numbers? Like it or not Zombie is making horror significant again.

Puzzled looks like Zombie is going for a quick buck. plus how would you make it a gore fest movie because the original it absorbed the people not burn, cut them in half, or strangle them? no it absorbed them...its going to be pretty stressful for Zombie to create a death which involves blood and guts.
